TGS 2004: First Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII Screenshots

PS2 News | Fresh out of the Tokyo Game Show we deliver the first-ever screenshots of the game, and even a hint of what the genre might very well be.
Following the announcement last week of Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII, Square-Enix has today revealed the first ever screenshots of the game in-action. The game is looking remarkably solid and, from the screenshots shown, the game is looking to be a third-person shooter, which isn’t entirely bad mind you.

The screenshots show our new hero, Vincent Valentine, running around in a third-person perspective shooting at a number of enemies with his triple-barrel hand cannon. It’s still unclear whether or not this was actual in-game footage or merely a glimpse of one of the many spectacular FMVs destined to be presented in Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII. Also it’s still unknown whether or not Vincent will be able to have access to any weaponry apart from his trusty triple-barrel hand cannon. With this extremely brief presentation, it’s still relevantly hard to determine anything apart from the facts we already know, which isn’t a lot.

Even though a lot hadn’t been revealed in the brief Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII conference we are however quite pleased with how impressive the game is looking already. Stay tuned to PALGN as new information on Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII becomes available.

No doubt Final Fantasy purists are sh-tting their pants right about now. I don't mind. Square-Enix are using a few games as testing grounds for new ideas and ways to present and play a game (FF: Crystal Chronicles, FFX-2, and now this), and in my opinion it's a good thing. For a series that has had eleven iterations (and many spinoffs) only new and fresh content will keep the series strong.
