Details of Ico follow-up revealed ahead of Tokyo Game Show

PS2 News | Sony finally reveal successor to 2002's cult classic. First shots inside.
With the Tokyo Game Show looming on the horizon (24th September, date fans), Sony have finally broken their silence on the follow-up to one of videogaming's greatest cult classics, the dreamy action-adventure title Ico. Judging by details released today however, perhaps 'follow-up' isn't entirely correct.

See, judging from what's been revealed to date, it appears that the Sony team behind Ico have abandoned that game's much-vaunted characters and storyline in favour of an entirely new cast and world, entitled 'Wanda to Kyozou' (that's 'Wanda and the Colossus' to you and I). That said, the style displayed in the two screen grabs to date - misty, dreamlike, atmospheric, gulls swirling about on the sea air, etc etc - is thoroughly reminiscent of the adventures of Ico and Yorda.

The adventure centres on two characters, a girl on horseback named Wanda, and the Colossus, a stone giant covered in glyph-style inscriptions. Intriguing stuff. Alas, that's all the information PALGN has managed to dig up so far, at least until 24th September when the Tokyo Game Show kicks off. Until then, if you haven't already, PALGN urges readers to pick up Ico. Given that it shifted a paltry 45,000 copies in Europe, it's a title that quickly became an eBay darling, though the considerable prices being paid are good value for one of this generation's finest videogame experiences.

As usual, more on Wanda and the Colossus as it breaks.

I actually played Ico a few months back now, and wow, what a game. More of an experience really.
And although this isn't a true sequel to Ico, it still seems to be closely tied to it. Lets hope it's as good or better than the original.

I absolutely loved Ico and I can't wait until the day I finally find a copy to call my own. Read about this Wanda game last night and it has already shot high up into my wishlist, wouldn't be surprised if it takes the spot of being my most anticipated game either...

Heh, I hear you guys - I'm an absolute Ico nut myself. I've been through the game three times, and it's just mesmerising.
I wanted to cry the first time I saw Ico and Yorda separated on the bridge near the end, and the ending, although probably a rather cynical attempt to set up a sequel, was as brilliant as it was unexpected.
Along with Advance Wars and Halo, it was probably my favourite game of this generation. Hence me enthusing so much about it in the report. icon_razz.gif

no no, i mean to buy...

the Kmart down the road used to have many copies of some LE version of the game... i don't know if a standard version was release but this one had a digipack rather than amaray case and some postcards... maybe some others...

but unfortunately they did recently renovate and the games collections shrunk dramatically... i'll let you know...
