Sly 2: Band of Thieves features a relatively basic storyline. Word is out that Interpol has excavated the robotic remains of Clockwerk – Sly's nemesis and sworn enemy of the Cooper clan. Sly and his gang discover the parts of Clockwerk are missing, and embark on a quest to ensure Clockwerk is never reassembled. The journey takes Sly and his crew to the far reaches of the globe and along the way experience a plot full of deceit, surprising twists, and an exciting romantic triangle that will, assures the press release, 'leave players wanting more'.
Sly 2: Band of Thieves will allow the player to play as three different characters, solving puzzles will require using teamwork to carry out assignments. Multiple characters appear to be all the rage lately and Sly 2: Band of Thieves carries on this tradition. Sly and his two companions will need to don clever disguises to complete his objectives. To improve upon the length there are now a total of eighty missions, which if nothing else should make sure Sly 2: Band of Thieves lasts longer than five hours - or so you would hope.
The three characters which will feature in Sly 2: Band of Thieves are Bentley, Murray and Sly Cooper himself. Bentley is a turtle who is in charge of coming up with new ideas. Murray is the tough part of the team and will be great in charging through missions. Sly Cooper is the leader of the pack, and is cunning and devious. The game has a decent set of secondary characters as well, ranging from Rajan, Neyla and Dimitri.
Sly 2: Band of Thieves is also shaping up to be a very visually pleasing title. Cel-shading has returned but has been improved upon. PALGN fancies that the title is going for the comic book look, though it's no technical lightweight either: it features a brilliant draw-distance and will look extremely authentic.
To say that Sony have just upgraded Sly is selling the game short. In a Christmas flooded with platformers Sly 2: Band of Thieves will need to be really impressive to get noticed, and PALGN would happily tip the title as a dark horse for this Christmas season. Sly 2: Band of Thieves is exclusive to the Playstation 2 and is set for a release on October 1st 2004, Expect a review around then.
