DJ Hero details emerge

PS2 News | More 'wiki wiki' than you can shake a stick at.
Get your glow sticks ready funsters as the first images of FreeStyleGames's turntabling title DJ Hero have arrived, along with a few snippets on the game's features.

Publisher Activision explains that the rotating DJ Hero turntable peripheral will allow gamers to utilise all of the DJing tricks such as scratching, mixing, cross-fading and blending to whip up a set of sick beats. Activision also pointed out that there is "room for creative expression with a variety of effects and player chosen samples and scratches."

As well as showing off your DJ skills, players will also be able to plug a microphone in to the turntable controller, enabling them to emcee over another DJs mix. If you're a sucker MC, the game gives you the opportunity to put down the microphone and pick up a guitar and jam along with a number of special DJ-guitar mixes included in the title.

DJ Hero is scheduled to scratch its way into retailers on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2 and Wii later this year.

Yawn, this was so 10 years ago when Beatmania came out.

I really want this to be good... but I have absolutely no faith in it.

The thing is, Konami has done this. Twice.

Beatmania predates even Guitar Hero by at least 5 years or more. So either this will fall flat on it's face, or mean that IIDX came out 5 years too early.

Although I'd like to see DJ Hero try to top this notechart. That would be insane.

I love the hero franchise, even though I got onto it much later than everyone else (or maybe that's the reason why I'm not as jaded as everyone else seems to be), but this particular peripheral just looks BORING.

The videos on gametrailers look stagnant, monotonous and not at all interesting. There are three colours only to play with, and like 1 or 2 switches.

How is this meant to capture even a semblance of the many-switch, many-button devices us laypeople with no clue about DJ'ing see from time to time.

I mean, I mistook it for a wall-mounted alarm clock when I first saw the peripheral in one of those videos.

The ignorant folks at X-Play called Beatmania a Guitar Hero rip-off. That was the saddest thing I ever saw.

This will ride on the success of Guitar Hero, plus this is more aimed at Western Audiences with more main stream music. Wasn't Beatmania Japanese electronic music? I hadn't heard of the artists.
