A few hours later, just as the giddy grins were slowly fading from our faces, Microsoft danced to Sony's tune and released news of their own price cuts for the Xbox. Thus, from Friday 27th August, the Xbox will be available to European consumers for a paltry £99.99/€149.99 (that's just over 250 $AU). Nintendo have not said a word meanwhile, though Sony and Microsoft's largesse still hasn't been able to match the Gamecube's tidy £79.99 price tag.
The price cuts are clearly aimed at boosting Christmas sales and are a clear indication that, despite the promise of next-generation hardware being unveiled early in 2005, hardware manufacturers are still confident there's juice in the current flock of consoles. Now all we need is an Australian price cut, and PAL gamers everywhere can look forward to a fairly glorious Christmas.
