Another week, another batch of GTA: San Andreas screens

PS2 News | Seventeen of them this time, and things are looking fine...
Rockstar have decided to dripfeed us a further selection of screenshots from their forthcoming crime opus, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Pleasingly, the newest batch are considerably more varied and informative than the previous screens we received - highlights here include the first images of hero CJ swimming (something not possible in previous games), some impressive overhead views of San Andreas' sprawling highways, and the odd moody evening shot, complete with burnt sienna evening skies. Nice.

The new screens are also a neat example of just how ambitious Rockstar's title is shaping up to be: you only need to take a look at the buildings and skyscrapers that stretch deep into the horizon to know that some serious time (and money) has been ploughed into this project. Naturally, we've yet to see how it looks in motion, but we have faith in Rockstar to pull it off. Indeed, the only concern we could possibly have for the game to date would be that it could collapse under the weight of it's own ambition - in such a huge game world, can Rockstar retain the tight, focussed mission design of the first two games? This October, we'll know for sure.

For now, see the latest screens here, and rest assured that we'll keep them coming as soon as we get them.

^^ Just PlayStation 2, for now. An Xbox version isn't entirely implausible however - the previous two in the franchise made the leap after all.

The trailer and screens look good, although the website is taking a while to load.
