While details on the new game are scarce, we thought we'd round up exactly what we know about the game at the moment. Obviously the main difference between Arctic Edge and its predecessors is the setting, the game will of course be set in Alaska's frozen tundra, which is a stark contrast to the island and desert settings of the previous games. The developer has also changed - while Evolution Studios is presumably busy working on a third PlayStation 3 entry in the series or maybe just taking a well earned break - Bigbig studios, the developer of the PSP exclusive Pursuit Force is developing this game. Bigbig studios have proved themselves to be very capable developers in the past, so the series is in good hands.
The Alaskan setting means that this time players will need to look out for different kinds of hazards. Alaska is very unpredictable, which means there could be sudden avalanches, broken ice bridges or falling icicles. There are also three different racing altitudes, which means that those who found the island setting to be a walk in the park will be challenged by the colder weather.
The game will include the six vehicle classes from the previous games, but will also add two more classes which are catered specifically to the setting; the snowcat and the snow machine. Now we don't have much of an idea of how these vehicles will look, but we imagine they'll be strong vehicles, that probably don't have the best handling. The game will also include some support for basic customisation and you'll be able to equip your ride with different parts or even apply decals and stickers.
The PlayStation 2 version of the game should be rather similar to the PSP version, but those who do pick up the PSP version will be able to battle online and take a look at how well their times fare on the global leaderboard. Even though Arctic Edge is still a few months off it does look like the game will be a great addition to the MotorStorm franchise. Maybe this time PlayStation 3 owners will be the ones getting jealous.
