a sequel to the game
But there's already a sequel, a little known game called ICO.

Personally I think a film based on ICO would work much better. But judging from those attached, they'll miss the point irrespective of what game they decide to butcher.

SOTC is just too much of a game to work as a film, the whole point is that the player is tricked into becoming the demon. That kind of experience just doesn't relate to any medium.

That said, a film based loosely around the scenario of SOTC could make a good movie, though there should be a good 20 minutes of: Wander goes to the castle; is told where to go (in the same incomprehensible voice); rides there checking the direction with his sword at least once; a shot of a lizard on the ground with a hazy figure riding along drawing nearer until in focus - as a nod to eating their tails; climbing up a cliff, possibly with mistakenly grabbing a lizard (which drops it's tail); crawling through a passage to reveal the first colossus; then this happens.

Am I the only one who thinks this could actually be kind of cool?

Those battles were oh so epic in their own right that, if done well on the big screen with good special effects, could make the movie worth watching.

Those who are worried it will 'wreck' the experience for themselves can just avoid going to see it, perhaps? You have to look at it on the flipside, in that it may actually draw non-gamers (or even better, gamers who avoided SotC because it looked too 'artsy') to play the game, and if the movie is a success, could actually spawn a re-release or a sequel to the game which otherwise may not have happened.

No guarantees either way with this one, but I for one am excited, if only to see just how they tackle it.
I had a idea onces where they'ed make a series of Shadow of the Colossus battles and show them like they use to the Bugs Bunny/Daffy Duck cartoons, just a little something entertaining befor the main feature.
Also i imagine it being shot like Sin City, entirely against a Green Screen, with Weta doing the Colossus.

Then again, i'm not thinking it has much hope with the currently attached 'talent'. Nothing against LaBeouf really, he can be a fine actor given the right role, just haven't liked much of his recent work where his the lead.

Starring Shia Labeouf

I understand the folks working on the project are planning to have some of the characters who appear only momentarily in the game, such as those who try to track down and stop Wander, play bigger roles in the film. And despite the game's somewhat "artsy" cred, they're hoping Shadow will be a Lord of the Rings-style fantasy tentpole.
fail
I hate you for even suggesting it.

You know how I feel about Shia.

This has epic fail written all over it.

Shadow of the Colossus came after ICO, but SOTC was a prequel of sorts.

At the end of SOTC, there is a boy born with two horns. So they are more similar rather then direct sequels as both storys have little connection.

It better be very artsy and very minimal on the dialogue. A very organic soundtrack would work well but I can't see this being anything but a disapointment to most fans of the game.

And I hear about this just as I learn they are making live action movies of Full Metal Panic and Cowboy Bebop.

This could be an amazing movie if they don't **** it up but the probability of it working is like 2% at most.

Nope.

This is the guy that turned Chun Li from an interpol agent into a piano player... that knew martial arts for some reason.

This movie is going to be horrible.

Accept that now and don't even try to get your hopes up.

^ We can hope his initial script gets rejected, and someone with more talent gets to take over. I mean, if there wanting to treat it like a 'tent pole'/'Blockbuster', it'll probably be re-written and get more talent behind it. Right?

of all the games i've played this is one of the last i ever expected to be suggested for a movie.
it's like a piece of art. there is no way they will do it justice.

why not look at God of War, that has epic hollywood blockbuster written all over it. knowing our luck they'd probably cast Shia Labeouf as Kratos too icon_smile.gif

In case they grab Uwe Boll, let me weep and/or curse in advance. This film has promise. But previous game-to-movie endeavours paint a bleak picture. Hitman, Doom, Max Payne...you know what I mean.

Even though Doom did pretty well in it's launch week...

Wow. I'm genuinely pissed off at this. Shia ****ing LeBeouf. Jesus... Street Fighter?? Those bastards.

Of course you guys had to start throwing names like Del Toro and Cuaron around to just add that little extra salt in the wound. What could have been! ;_;
