Championship Manager 5 heads for the consoles

PS2 News | Eidos give PlayStation 2 and Xbox owners cause to rejoice.
Aspiring football managers everywhere will be preparing the extra-strength coffee and the Pro Plus today for those all-night sessions after Eidos announced that Championship Manager 5 is destined for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox next Spring. Predecessor Championship Manager 4 (which only appeared on the PC) became the UK's fastest-selling PC game ever when it was released back in March 2003, and Eidos are clearly keen to repeat that success on the current generation of consoles.

Jonathan Kemp, European managing director of Eidos declared, "This is a great opportunity for us to build upon the phenomenal success of the Championship Manager brand by taking it to a whole new audience. We have long been aware of the great demand among PlayStation 2 owners to experience the world's most successful and realistic football management game. Our new technology being developed for Championship Manager 5 has been designed in a way to enable a faithful recreation of the Championship Manager experience on PlayStation 2 and Xbox."

Due to it's data-intensive nature, the game (which for the first time isn't being developed by series creator Sports Interactive, but Gusto Games) has only appeared once on a platform other than the PC, with the Xbox having played host to Championship Manager 2001/2002.

More as it develops. Until then, check out the PC screens in the Media section - we're guessing the console versions will be nigh-on identical.

i never understood the attraction of managerial games...

i guess its just another one of those things... but i'd rather 'play' the game than strategise over it...
