Juiced Preview

PS2 Preview | Could Juiced beat Need for Speed: Underground at its own game?
After the phenomenal success of EA’s Need For Speed: Underground we knew it wouldn’t be to long before companies would try to create a game based on illegal street racing. Acclaim’s Juiced is the first of these titles and will be going head to head with Need For Speed: Underground 2 when it is released later this year.

Juiced will combine the best elements of simulation and arcade style gameplay. Juiced will feature real time modding and full online play for the Xbox and Playstation 2.

Juiced will also feature over 50 licensed vehicles including Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Dodge, Ford, Mazda Mitsubishi, Pontiac, Holden, Volkswagen, Fiat, Renault, Subaru, Peugeot and Chevrolet. Hundreds of authentic aftermarket parts from leading manufacturers such as A'PEXi, AEM, Bridgestone, Ferodo, Konig, Alpine and HKS will provide players with thousands of combinations. It is claimed that it is possible to have up to 7.2 trillion unique car creations.

The gameplay in Juiced will be completely non-linear. This enables players to build their characters and cars. Gaining respect will be important and will be gained by winning races and cash.

Online play will be an important component of Juiced including the first ever “pink slip” races and team based crew racing. Players will have full control over where they race ranging from track locations, car types, country of origin, engine and cash requirements.

There has never been more freedom in online play, an online database will be used to measure overall global player statistics including lap records, fastest speeds achieved and most expensive cars.

The damage model in Juiced is looking phenomenal, once of the drawbacks of Need For Speed: Underground was a lack of damage. Juiced more than truly makes up for this omission, meaning races will never be the same again.

Juiced will also feature the ability to build custom racing crews that work together as a team to win races. We are unsure how this will fit into the street-racing theme but more details are going to be unveiled about Juiced in the coming months.

Juiced will be available on the Playstation 2 and Xbox in September 2004. PALGN will have more details on Juiced as they become available.
Overall:
Juiced seems to be bringing some of its own ideas to the street racing game but we're not sure if it will be good enough to beat Need For Speed Underground.

Even though I loved NFSU, I've been keeping a close eye on this game ever since I heard about it. Some might think that it is just copying the idea of NFSU, but I reckon it'll bring enough unique things to the genre, and will be quite an awesome racing game. icon_smile.gif
Although, having Holden's within the car list? I'm not sure if I like that idea or not, while they can be customised, Holden's just don't suit the Import scene...

This game sounds amazing. Built up with some interesting concepts and features the game sounds like a game to keep a close eye on.

Acclaim sent me an E3 media kit which had about 200 meg of info on the game, it sounds extremely promising. icon_smile.gif Could be better than NFS:U2.

It could happen. icon_wink.gif

Personally I think this game will be ok, but not better than NFSU 2. If you watch videos of the game it looks like pretty ordinary racing. But that's me...

i'm not really interested in this as its PS2 based... there aren't many console drivers that i think are worth the effort... i'm liking the look og nfsu2 on PC though...

We had some nice hands-on time with a review copy sent to our offices just before Acclaim went belly up. I can say that Juiced is well beyond what anyone thinks - unless you've actually played the game properly (ie, not those terrible demos).

Midnight Club and NFSU have more in common: Juiced is a far more hardcore ball-game and I could almost call it the Tony Hawk of street racers, but let's not get ahead of ourselves - yet. If there are any Street Legal fans here, you'll dig the game and even thos enot that fond of racing (like me) should get a kick out of it, especially if you like trick driving or just good ol' fashioned betting.

But none of these Need for Speed comparisons, please! Because there is none. Juiced is more attentive to detail, more immersive and demands a more dedicated and hardcore audience - or at least someone willing to spend a lot of time in front of their machines.

Street Legal aye....That game was terrible!! I played it once and made a vow never to play it again!! I no you said that the demo's were s--t but how much better can the demo be to the full game!! Yeah extra races, more tuning, final tweaking, etc but I found this game, just not as fun as NFS:U2!
