Sony deny Gran Turismo 4 slip

PS2 News | Contrary to recent rumours, Polyphony Digital's simulation is still on schedule for November in PAL territories.
The UK arm of Sony Computer Entertainment has confirmed that Gran Turismo 4 is still destined to reach it's November 2004 release date in PAL territories.

European gaming site www.eurogamer.net this afternoon reported that a source close to Sony claims "SCEE won't admit that GT4 will slip yet," but maintained that internally, Sony is facing up to making the unwelcome move of shifting the game's PAL launch until early next year.

It's a claim that SCE UK's PR chief David Wilson, speaking today on the matter, denies: "We haven't been made aware of any changes to the schedule, but Polyphony are such perfectionists that they won't ship the game until it's absolutely ready. It's such an important title."

Gran Turismo 4 has been beset by delays before now of course, with developers Polyphony Digital admitting that perfecting the game's online mode was a major factor in holding back the game's release, and that adding the huge Nurburgring track also played a part in past slippages. In the event of another delay for the PAL release, Sony would be looking at pushing the game all the way back to mid February - usually the first week considered for any major game releases post-Christmas.

I hope it is true as it could mean Ferraris. icon_wink.gif

I hope it's true in the sense that the game will be made perfect before release, and couldn't care if they take till late next year. As long as it's perfect, then I'll be happy. But I also wouldn't mind it releasing at the date it's scheduled, but that's because I will need another GT fix by then. icon_wink.gif

As Civ said, EA's (and Microsoft's) licence with Ferrari will be ending soon, which may give Sony the option of picking it up. (and including it in GT4, they would be stupid not to take advantage of the situation.)

We may also be seeing Porsche's in the game too, but that depends again, on EA's licence. icon_wink.gif
