Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Preview

PS2 Preview | We round up all the information currently known about the next game in the GTA franchise.
Grand Theft Auto three words which are synonymous with huge sales, fantastic gameplay and utter fun. The latest title in the series Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has been in development for over two years. Recently Rockstar released the first three screenshots of San Andreas and speculation took over. Today we sort the fact from the fiction with a huge preview of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

San Andreas will not be a one dimensional town surrounded with water. San Andreas doesn't refer to a city but an entire state. Each part of the state is made up of three separate areas San Fierro, (San Francisco) Las Venturra (Las Vegas) and Los Santos (Los Angeles) Each of the three cities combine to create a city which is up to six times bigger than Vice City, making the game feel more like a living, breathing world. San Andreas will also feature countryside linking the three cities.

The main character's name will be Carl Johnson. Carl returns home to San Andreas after serving five years in the Liberty City jail. Carl's mother has been killed and his family is falling apart. Carl is framed for murder by some corrupt cops and is sent across San Andreas as a fugitive.

New additions to the game include a stamina meter (which requires eating to keep fit) and improved building interiors. Gone are the boring indoor locations of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. If you put on weight then you send your character to the gym, or he may not be able to pass that illustrious mission.

Environments will more detailed and intricate than Grand Theft Auto's predecessors. The graphics engine in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has been reworked. Although it was hard to tell from the screenshots, everything will look much more detailed. Real-time reflections will bounce off cars, windows and mirrors. Property investment will be expanded on a lot. In Las Vegas it will be possible to run your own casino and gamble in it - as if Grand Theft Auto didn't have enough side distractions.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas will be set in the early 1990's. At the moment what exactly will feature in the soundtrack is unknown. Rockstar does promise a huge variety of music though so those worrying about the stations only containing rap will be breathing a sigh of relief. A reworked difficulty system is also included. The game will adjust the difficulty level based on the performance of the player which will allow for more people to complete Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. It will also now be possible to recruit members for a gang.

Taking the game to a heightened level of realism your character will grow and evolve with your actions. Restaurants are included in San Andreas and your character will need to eat to keep alive and have stamina. Player's will be able to see Carl's build change over time. The control system has been completely reworked and Rockstar is promising it will be an innovation. Characters will now have 'impact animation' which will see non playable characters react more realistically if they are shot or run over.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas promises to be an absolutely massive game once it hits Australia in Quarter 4 2004. Gamers who were beginning to doubt the Grand Theft Auto appeal will be reminded as to why it is so appealing.

PALGN will have more on Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas as it is announced.
Overall:
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is sounding absolutely amazing and could be one of the best games of 2004.

Obsolete, to be honest I can't remember if it was recalled or not. I think it was as our version is missing a small trivial segment of the game but now I can't remember.

Guess that's a job for the Palgn crew to inform us. icon_wink.gif

^^^ Although no announcement has been made to date regarding versions other than the PS2 one, I wouldn't be overly surprised if an Xbox one eventually made it out. Rockstar likes them notes.

I don't really mind about the music that much, just as long as there are at least 2 discussion type radio stations.

One thing that bothered me about previous GTA releases is that there is a distinct lack of children on the streets and mothers carrying babies. I've always wanted to go around with a katana and cut a baby's head off...
which is probably why they're not there...
I think youre right
