Devil May Cry 3 announced

PS2 News | The devil cries for a third time. What sort of a wussy devil is this? Ahem. Screenshots inside.
Despite one of the worst PAL conversions in recent history, the original Devil May Cry was quite a solid action/survival horror game, featuring some fun shooting based gameplay. Devil May Cry 2 was decent enough, but ultimately paled in comparsion to the original. However, with Devil May Cry 3 the series producer, Tsuyoshi Tanaka, is looking to return to the style of the original game.

Interestingly, the game will be a prequel to the events in the original game. Nothing concrete is known at this point, but one would assume it follows the lead character, Dante, on how he ends up hunting demons, so to speak. Like the games before it, gameplay will be mission based and storyline driven.

Early and grainy shots, but the potential is definately there.

The biggest change to the game will be the introduction of a so called style system. At the beginning of the game, you will choose a style to play as: be it gunslinger, swordmaster, trickster, royal guard, or others which are currently unknown. While this alone increases the strategy element required in the game, the fact that you will able to build up attributes unique to each style throughout the game is quite a neat addition in it's own right.

Devil May Cry 3 will also feature an alledgedly brand new graphics engine, which will allow for more visually impressive enemies, effects and a partially destructable game environment, which is always nice.

Oh, and one final thing - a mysterious female will also play a part in the game some how. Oooh, spooky.

Expect more from Devil May Cry 3 will it shows its face at E3. It looks like it could be a welcome return to form for the franchise. Check out the media panel for more screenshots.
