Burnout 3 Preview

PS2 Preview | We preview one of 2004's most anticipated titles.
After this year gamers are going to be sick of arcade racers, Need for Speed Underground 2, Juiced and Flatout are all coming out before the end of the year. There is one game however which has the ability to overshadow these games and it is Burnout 3.

The original Burnout titles were quick, addictive arcade games with the sheer emphasis on fun. The franchise has sold a total of 2 million units. Taking over from Acclaim, Burnout 3 is now going to be published by EA. Don’t let this detract you from picking up this title though as it looks just as good, if not better than its predecessors; and promises a lot more.

Burnout 3l feature numerous single player modes, multiplayer and online crash and race modes. Promising more traffic and better A.I, more realistic crashes, more modes (some of which are still un announced) and more cars

Burnout 3 looks to be more than just a rushed out sequel. None of the cars are licensed which ensures Criterion can create the ultimate crash experience.

Criterion are making sure that gamers returning from the two previous installments won’t be bored. There are now extra ways to earn points with early screenshots showing a “takedown move”. The takedown move is when you intercept your opponent and force them to crash, whether it be into a fence or moving vehicle. This adds another tactical element to the game and should make multiplayer battles more intense.

The original titles ran at a solid 60FPS and even though there have been graphical enhancements to the game it should still run at a blisteringly smooth 60FPS.

Also included in Burnout 3 will be a unique crash and burn racing concept and a new special effects engine that delivers better visuals than ever before.

The Playstation 2 version will feature online play but unfortunately because EA are publishing the title Xbox Live users miss out. The extent of the online play has not yet been unveiled but it promises to be more extensive than Burnout 2’s lackluster scoreboard uploading on Xbox Live

Burnout 3 will be released on the Playstation 2 and Xbox in September 2004, directly in competition with Juiced. We are confident both titles will be good enough to distinguish themselves. With EA being the publishers this time around we have faith the game will be familiar enough to Burnout veterans and inviting enough for new players.

PALGN will have more on Burnout 3 as it unfolds.
Overall:
Burnout 3 is shaping up to be a solid addition to the Burnout franchise. We are looking forward to seeing how much the game has progressed come September.

Can't wait for this! icon_biggrin.gif

Out of curiosity, in the preview it says that because EA are publishing the game, there won't be any Xbox Live support... Why does EA continue to ignore Live? icon_dumb.gif
