Yakuza 2 confirmed for Europe

PS2 News | Kazuma Kiryu returns.
Although Sega had previously announced that Yakuza 2 would be released in the United States this year, until now PAL gamers have had no indication that they would once again be able to enter the world of Kazuma Kiryu. Today however, Sega has official announced, via a press release, that Yakuza 2 will coming to Europe later this year.

A PlayStation 2 exclusive, Yakuza 2 takes place immediately after the events of the first game. Kazuma Kiryu is named the Fourth Chairman of the Tojo Clan but unexpectedly retires on the same day. Not long after, his successor is assassinated by the Omi, a former allied gang, which leads to Kazuma travelling across Japan to stop the threat of a possible war between the Tojo and Omi clans.

At this stage there has been no mention of the game arriving in Australia, but given our releases are often tied with Europe, it’s safe to assume we can expect a local release as well. Included with the press release were 5 screenshots, all of which can be found in the media panel.

Cool, finally got around to playing the original recently so good to have confirmation of the sequel.

This is seriously good news. The original was excellent and didn't get the commercial success it deserved. It's great to see an original concept/setting getting followups.

Never played the first, but from the screens I like the premise, have to pick these up.

I'm playing the first one right now - its a a good but flawed game. Its my type of game - modern setting, beat them up with a story. Its very GTA like but without vehicles.

I'm looking forward to getting the sequel - and am happy the PS2 is still being supported. Right now the PS2 is still my gaming platform of choice even though I have a PS3, 360 and Wii.

I was really hyped for the original game (all it was known as back then was 'Ryu ga Gotoku'). It looked like Shenmue, but edgier, brought forward to the (then) current generation and was presented with an appealing cinematic flair.

But then it sort of dropped off the map and I never bothered looking it up again. It's still one of those games I'd look out for if the opportunity presented itself.

Its hard to find - i had to pick up a preowned copy at EB and I hate doing that cause EB gets to double dip in the profits and the developers don't get a cent.
