AFL Live Premiership Edition Preview

PS2 Preview | We continue our AFL coverage with a preview of the long awaited game (with screenshots).
AFL Live Premiership Edition is the new AFL title from Acclaim. Earlier this year we interviewed PR Director Ben Pollock about the title and it seems to be coming along well, but how well?

The first week of the AFL season starts tomorrow night and gamers will be eager to get a hold of AFL Live: Premiership Edition when it launches on April 23rd. It will feature the entire fixture of the 2004 season and the entire 2004 player list. This is the major draw-card for gamers as for the first time they will be available to play a round as the season unfolds.

Aside from the main game (which features all 22 rounds and the 2004 fixture) there will be a Wizard Cup mode featuring exclusive Wizard Cup rules. As gamers progress through the game they will be able to unlock video content. We are unsure what this video content will contain but we hope that it has a great selection of highlights.

At the end of AFL Live 2004 it was a bit disappointing to win the cup and the game was over, Brownlow medals will be awarded to the player of the year and a Norm Smith medal will be given to the best player on the ground during the grand final match. This adds more of an incentive for gamers to keep playing consistently.

The main game can become repetitive and multiplayer is encouraged. Multiplayer missions will be included. As the Playstation 2 version features multi-tap support (up to four players) this should make the game more intense and competitive for those who found the A.I lacking in the previous title.

The MCG's ever changing look has been updated to be synonymous with how it looks at the beginning of the AFL 2004 season. During heritage round teams will sport different jumpers and an All-Australian team will be available.

Acclaim promise game play improvements but have been tight-lipped as to exactly what these improvements are. Graphics have taken a minor upgrade but shouldn't change much from AFL Live 2004 Recognizing the game is both an expansion and sequel the RRP for the game is $69.95. This should lessen the blow to gamers feeling like they just purchased an AFL title only a few months ago.

Stay tuned to PALGN for more information regarding AFL Live: Premiership Edition as it breaks. AFL Live: Premiership Edition ships April 23rd for both the Playstation 2 and Xbox.
Overall:
We've learnt not to get to excited by the last two AFL titles, this game sounds impressive but we are unsure as to whether it will play that way.

I haven't played the game yet but may be getting it soon. I was just wondering whether the game will have an area where you can create an appearance or profile. Are there any sites that can answer my question? because so far I've been unable to find one icon_confused.gif

I can agree with that, but the video-game conversions have been absolutely dreadful. Hopefully the next instalment can do justice. Hopefully.
