Metal Gear compilation in the works

PS2 News | Konami hopes to tide gamers over until MGS4 release.
In an effort to curb the frustrations of restless Metal Gear Solid fans (and make an even bigger truckload of cash), Konami has announced that it plans to release Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection, a PlayStation 2 boxset which will include the classic Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2 (director’s cut), and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater in one commemorative collection.

Anthony Crouts, VP of Marketing for Konami is doing his best to get fans to dip into their wallets for another slice of classic Metal Gear:

"Since its inception, the Metal Gear Solid franchise has been one of the most successful game series in the history of video games, receiving worldwide recognition and praise. Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection represents great value for gamers, bringing together three must-have classic titles which pioneered the stealth action genre.”

While there is currently no word on an Australian release, it is highly likely that the package will make its way to our shores to capitalise on the Metal Gear hysteria.

I hoped they would make it for PS3 as i never had a PS2 and would love to play them before MGS4 comes out.

Argh, it's times like these I wish I hadn't traded in my PS2.

you'd hope they'ed include the second disk from Subsistance, though the MGO part of it would be useless now, it would have the translated MSX ports of the original Metal Gear titles.

I hope they release the updated version of Snake Eater on it. When I went back to play that I did not enjoy it at all. Which was shocking, considering I had extremely fond memories of it.

I hope it's all backward compatible with the PS3. If so I'll be buying this.

I have emailed Konami to confirm whether Australians will be getting this title, will know shortly.

All of the extras from all of the games will be included. So basically MGS2: Substance and MGS3: Subsistance. The Subsistance disc will have all of the extras minus online play. No VR Missions from the sounds of things. All announced on IGN recently.

Basically we are unsure on:

-if MGS2 contains the 'making of DVD'
-if MGS3 contains the Existance disc
-what is on the extra DVD (the fan translated movie etc.)

Still an excellent package. Although I have all of the uber special version so no big deal for me. ^_^

doubt it'll work on non-ps2 compatible ps3s, which is stupid because they wanna appease ps3 owners who are waiting for mgs4

Wasn't a fan of Metal Gear Solid until recently... just recently bought Snake Eater from the forums and MGS2 from EB pre-owned. I've just borrowed the first one, finished it and was planning to buy it but if this is going to be out in Australia, I'll get this instead icon_biggrin.gif

Great to have Substance and parts of Subsistence added to my collection then icon_biggrin.gif

Have been a fan of Metal Gear for awhile (and want to get a PSP just for the 3 games and the graphic novel things), but only own MGS:2 with the second disk, making of etc 2nd hand from EB, finished MGS 1 once & Snake Eater a couple times, never finished MG (NES) or played Snake Returns or MG2
*exhales slowly*

But i hope this re-release is worth it, and people don't get 'jipped' by lack of features or whatever...

so is it going to be the twin snakes version of MGS1 or the PSONE version?

Hmmm, now I don't have an excuse for not buying MGS4 (I didn't really want it if I couldn't get the first 3) so I'll get this pack and check out the gameplay, if it's good then I'll get MGS4 too icon_smile.gif

The PSone version. Don't worry though your not mising out on much. icon_lol.gif

Also, people shouldn't be afraid about this compilation not being feature rich. For the American price that its set at and what you get this is a fantastic deal.

Im not worried i have played both versions and am currently making my way through the twin snakes on GC amongst the pile of great games i have at the moment haha...

just thought they might have included it for upgraded graphics...

This sounds like a nice deal though sadly I can't really justify getting it since I already own MGS, Special Missions, MGS2: Substance and MGS3: Subsistence. What they should do is release it as one super duper Metal Gear Solid disc, Orange Box style, but as a PS3 title and just cram as much Metal Gear content on as possible. I would be all over buying that. That way there's the awesomeness of so much good stuff on one disc, and there's no backwards compatibility issues... just issues for non-PS3 owners I guess.
