To contain no less than sixteen titles, the suitably titled SNK Arcade Classics Volume 1 will contain a bevy of SNK's earliest arcade fighting games (think the very first instalments of Fatal Fury, King of Fighters, Samurai Shodown etc), along with some of its lesser known one hit wonders (Shock Troopers and Magician Lord, oh yes please).
While SNK Playmore has officially stated that the compilation will see an early 2008 release on both PlayStation 2 and the PlayStation Portable, curiously missing from its press release is any mention of a Wii version of the game. This, of course, comes on the heels of an ESRB listing for a Wii version of the game, along with first words about the collection itself (courtesy of Nintendo Wii Fanboy, and 4 Color Rebellion's interviewing skills) making clear mention of a Wii iteration all the way back in September of last year--mere days after the first SNK Neo Geo title made its way onto Nintendo's Virtual Console in Japan.
Keeping in mind that SNK Playmore has already released some of the planned titles in the SNK Arcade Classics collection on the Wii's Virtual Console Neo Geo selection, along with a Wii release of the collection negating any value one would find in purchasing the games individually through Nintendo's digital service, and the possible reasoning behind the game's mysterious Wii denunciation becomes somewhat clearer. Barring that, the Wii's absence from the press release simply means a ridiculous delay for the Wii version of the collection, at least Wii owners can, for now, more accurately guess what awaits them next on the Virtual Console, Neo Geo wise.
