Orange Box available for pre-order

PC News | Now with extra Peggle!
Valve's Orange Box, consisting of Half-Life 2, Episode 1, Episode 2, Team Fortress 2 and Portal is now available for pre-order on Steam with a 10% discount. The whole lot, after the discount, will set you back roughly AU$54.

Not only do you get the games cheaper if you pre-order, but you'll also get to play the Team Fortress 2 beta from Monday September 17th and get a special Half-Life 2 themed version of Peggle Extreme. Which is nice.

The Orange Box is due for release on October 10th, 2007.

And you can sell HL2 and Ep1 right?
technically, no.

No. This violates the Steam Subscriber Agreement and may result in having your account disabled.
however, somehow i don't see this stopping people from trying.

eh?

i got charged twice when i bought E1 too, but i sent them an email and got it refunded within 48 hours.

and thanks to shifting dollar values, i got more back than i paid.
Nope, they told me they would have to 'lock out' my account for an undescribed amount of time while they 'investigated' if I had been charged twice or not.
well that sucks. yeah all i did was send them an email with a scan of the receipt and i got it back, like i said, within 24 hours. if there was any account lock-out, it happened when i wasn't playing anything on steam (which is highly likely - this was a pre-purchase too, so there wasn't anything i was playing via Steam at the time) and i didn't notice.

Bahhh, I didn't know the Black Box got cancelled... annoying that is; I already have HL2 and Ep 1, and I don't want TF2. Just depends on whether Portal and Ep 2 together will cost more than this bundle...

So for an FPS fan who has never played Half-Life or it's sequel and expansions, would you all recommend I start from the beginning and play through, or simply get Orange Box and start from there?

You won't feel left out at all if you just start with Half-Life 2.

Episode 2 = $30USD.
Portal = $20USD.
Team Fortress 2 = $30USD

Orange Box = $50USD or $45USD if you pre-purchase.

so in your case, it's still cheaper to get another copy of HL2 and E1, even if you don't want TF2. in fact, provided you want at least 2 of those games, it's always going to be cheaper to get a couple of games you already have again.
