Far Cry 2 announced

PC News | That's about it really.
Ubisoft has announced via a press release that Far Cry 2 is on the way to PCs and should be available between March and June next year. The game is being developed by Ubisoft's Montreal Studio.

“Far Cry marked the beginning of a new era for shooters. An era of gorgeous graphics and of advanced artificial intelligence,” declared John Parkes, marketing director, EMEA. “We are confident that Far Cry 2 will have the same impact again on the face of the FPS genre.

Unfortunately, Mr. Parkes didn't actually reveal anything about Far Cry 2 at all, so we'll just have to wait for Ubisoft to reveal, say, anything.

Seriously bummed Ubisoft bought this IP after Crytek partnered with EA. Although the Ubisoft Montreal team did do the Prince of Persia series and are also working on Assassins Creed, so you never know. I still wish Crytek had control of Far Cry

well, it's about time that the original game stopped being remade for everything (i was expecting a FarCry DS sometime soon actually), it is, as Huseyadaddie said, a shame that the real talent behind the first game will have nothing to do with the sequel.

i wonder what engine it'll be based on:
the original CryENGINE, the CryENGINE2 (as used in Crysis) or another licensed engine?
i think it would pretty funny if Ubisoft had to license the CryENGINE2 from Crytek to make a sequel to a game they didn't make.

the concept art looks pretty cool though - what is it with all these games moving to Africa?

i really hope the level designers maintain Crytek's philosophy though. i loved the idea of "if you can see it, you can get there" from the first game, and any fake feeling barricades stopping me from exploring a particular landmark in the distance will make me a sad panda.
