LOTRO expansion pack landing on the 13th

PC News | Uncovering Middle Earth.
In what will probably come as a relief to current players sick of the loading screen promising as much, Turbine and Codemasters have announced that the first free update to Lord of the Rings Online expansion pack, Book 9: Shores of Evendim, is due for release on the 13th of June.

Picking up from where the Fellowship leaves Rivendell, Aragorn has tasked you with the responsibility of re-forging Narsil, the sword of Elendil. To do so, Gandalf needs an ancient jewel from the sword's hilt, now lost in Evendim, the newly available realm.

In addition to new areas to explore, the free update will feature over a hundred new quests, a new 24 player raid involving the the battle for Helegrod, nine new monsters, as well a number of functional updates. The music system is being extended to include percussion and bass instruments, as well as allowing players to compose music offline and upload it to their character. Seven new epic armour sets are also on offer, each of which offers cumulative bonuses for collecting full set.

Codemasters promises that this will be the first free update of many. PALGN has previously covered Lord of the Rings Online in a review, complete with a second opinion.

When I saw this I thought that it was a bit early for there to be an expansion pack for the game. Then I saw it was free which means that it is NEVER too early for an expansion pakc in my mind.

yeah, it's basically what Blizzard call a "Content Patch", rather than an expansion.
