Age of Empires III second expansion unveiled

PC News | Set to expand to Asia.
Microsoft has announced the second expansion for 2005’s Age of Empires III, entitled Age of Empires III: The Asian Dynasties. The new expansion, which will be developed by Big Huge Games (Rise of Nations, Catan), is currently scheduled for a Q3, 2007 release.

The expansion will enable players to experience the historical influences of Asia firsthand. In addition, the game will include remixed versions of classic Age of Empires maps and game modes, new winning and trading features, and 15 new Asian “wonders”. The expansion will also support Windows Vista.

The first screenshot from the game can be found in the Media Panel.

I'm interested as to how Asian culture is going to mix in with the colonization of the United States (though admittedly I don't know much about the subject). Is this possibly a move to make the game appeal more to AoEII fans? (all those Asian civs..)

But regardless, any content is good content I suppose. Still won't make it better than AoEII imho.

The setting is entirely different, won't mix with the New World setting at all. Dunno what the time period is though.

BTW "colonisation" is the correct way icon_razz.gif

But.. its not going to be like a separate bunch of civs. You'll be able to pit Asian nations against European ones/Native American indians.. and thats just weird.

Perils of the Firefox American dictionary. My typing is atrocious, I just right click every word underlined in red and click on the first spelling suggestion without even looking icon_razz.gif

.. I even installed the Australian Firefox dictionary.. didn't do anything.

Are you sure that the Asian civs are playable with the European ones?

From what I've seen the time eras are different.

That seems like a crummy idea to me.. doubt thats the case.

Why are you contradicting what you said before? icon_confused.gif

Most likely this expansion takes place totally away from the previous setting.

Well.. imho I agree with my first opinion. Really.. more is good, just doesn't make much sense for a historical RTS and all. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.
