Warhammer Online pushed back to 2008

PC News | EA takeover largely responsible.
EA Mythic confirmed via a community newsletter that its upcoming MMORPG based on the popular tabletop hobby, Warhammer, will be delayed until Q1 2008 in all territories.

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning was originally scheduled for a late release this year, though according to Mythic, since the acquisition by EA the company has been “afforded many wonderful development opportunities” and the company plans to take full advantage of such opportunities in ensuring that WAR! Online becomes “the best MMORPG possible”, claims EA Mythic General Manager Mark Jacobs.

Mark Jacobs further explained that Mythic are ensuring all areas of WAR will benefit from the shifted release date, promising that there will be “more war, more Warhammer, and more of what makes WAR great.”

wow, i didn't know this was a delay.

all i knew of was the announcement in the WAR newsletter that first quarter 2008 was announced.

guess the news doesn't alter anything for me, but i suppose all those people who are bitching about WoW's PVP on the forums and how WAR is going to blow WoW away will have a little longer to bitch.

hmm well i definitely hope it does become the best since they are now pushing it back even further. I have a feeling they might try to port this for consoles as well >.>

This could be really damaging to WAR, actually. Hearts-and-minds wise (and assuming either or both turn out to be any good), it's going to be competing heavily with Age of Conan for the demographic looking for something different/higher tech/more pvp focused in their MMOs.

...and really, that's a smallish market to covet, and the number of players who're going to shell out monthly for both is even smaller. So first mover advantage (i.e. install base) is going to be a big deal between these two.
