Neverwinter Nights 2 expansion pack announced

PC News | Mask of the Betrayer.
An expansion pack to Neverwinter Nights 2 is in development by Obsidian called Mask of the Betrayer, according to Atari.

In the game, players are transported back to the Forgotten Realm shortly after the events that transpired in Neverwinter Night 2 where they wake up stranded beneath the Earth. Included in the expansion pack is a new campaign mode as well as epic levels and new spells, feats, races, companions, weapons, armour, base and prestige classes, monsters and crafting options.

“With Neverwinter Nights 2, Obsidian delivered a high quality role-playing experience, reinforcing their position amongst the very finest studios working in the field,” Cyril Voiron, Marketing Director of Atari Europe stated. “With this Spring expansion pack Obsidian are bringing a wealth of brilliant new content to the fans to make the unique Neverwinter Nights experience even richer.”

“Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer’s engrossing campaign will conclude the storyline that began in the original Neverwinter Nights 2 and focus on combat, exploration and classic D&D dungeon-crawling,” Feargus Urquhart, CEO of Obsidian Entertainment stated. “We’re also making new advances in story and character development as well as improving upon the acclaimed companion Influence System used in both Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords and Neverwinter Nights 2.”

The game is currently scheduled for a 2007 release. We'll have more as it breaks.
