Burning Crusade launches across Australia

PC News | Die-hard fans raid Chatswood.
The 8 million fans across the world can’t be wrong in citing World of Warcraft as one of the most influential titles ever, and the estimated 450 people that lined up at Chatswood EB last night showed their dedication in continuing that legacy.

All of the midnight action happened in Sydney’s Chatswood, with EB hosting a handful of competitions for the eager fans in line. People of all ages and background made the track down for the launch, and a dedicated few showed their passion by dressing up as their favourite World of Warcraft characters. At the end of the night, the cosplay competition was a tie between a nicely dressed Blood Elf and an Orc baby (we blame the parents). Equally, fans enjoyed the ongoing trivia competition, where fans were quizzed with the toughest of questions from the World of Azeroth.

"WoW players are incredibly passionate about this game and the demand for it was the greatest we have on record, with well over 300 pre-orders being picked up at midnight in our Chatswood store alone. We were so glad to be the first to release it to the fans here in Sydney" said Jill Maxwell, spokeswoman for EB Games Australia. "The enthusiasm on the night was so impressive, we had babies, teenagers and adults battling with the giant orc and participating in all the competitions, " Maxwell continued.

Was insane at our store too. Quite the amount showed up. Not as many as 300 but still a damn lot. I also scored me 2 collectors editions icon_razz.gif But yeah was pretty nuts. No dress ups though.

The EB I work at had 150. All worked pretty smoothly, and it was fun chatting about games with people outside for an hour or so prior to midnight. My allocated task was pretty easy. icon_razz.gif

I have never played a MMORPG and have always been curious to try. I saw the Gamespot video review of world of warcraft and it looks like a truly amazing experience. The only issue I have is that it is a monthly payment situation and I rarely get the time to play a game that can literaly suck away hours of your life.

Maybe when I retire when im 50 I will have time to play WOW 12 or something. or maybe I'll have time when I finish my degree.

I know what you mean after looking at my sig, I dont get much time to play but when I get a lunch break at work or shopping with my girlfriend a I pick up a game that I want to play, I just have a collection that will take forever to play now.

I have pretty much collected all the games that I want for now with the completion of my final fantasy collection the other day with final fantasy tactics and final fantasy chronicles arriving in the post. Besides that I will get final fantasy XII but thats it for me for a while.

I didn't get up at Midnight. Sleep was more important.

But the EB I pre-ordered from (Brisbane Myer Center) had 250 turn up at midnight. They had also sold out on pre orders.

The girl behind the counter looked beat 9am yesterday morning.

Oh well I'm 3 bars towards level 61 and I just read some french nut made 70. Oh well back to the fun on the weekend. Great expansion btw.

WA, being WA, didn't have a midnight opening, not that i would've gone anyway, as realitybites said, sleep was more important.

there were a LOT of people lined up when the store opened though, for perthites, the line ran from the door, past the entrance to London Court mall. was insanely long.

i'm still p!ssed about not getting a CE though. if you're looking to unload one of your Frozen... icon_wink.gif
