All of the midnight action happened in Sydney’s Chatswood, with EB hosting a handful of competitions for the eager fans in line. People of all ages and background made the track down for the launch, and a dedicated few showed their passion by dressing up as their favourite World of Warcraft characters. At the end of the night, the cosplay competition was a tie between a nicely dressed Blood Elf and an Orc baby (we blame the parents). Equally, fans enjoyed the ongoing trivia competition, where fans were quizzed with the toughest of questions from the World of Azeroth.
"WoW players are incredibly passionate about this game and the demand for it was the greatest we have on record, with well over 300 pre-orders being picked up at midnight in our Chatswood store alone. We were so glad to be the first to release it to the fans here in Sydney" said Jill Maxwell, spokeswoman for EB Games Australia. "The enthusiasm on the night was so impressive, we had babies, teenagers and adults battling with the giant orc and participating in all the competitions, " Maxwell continued.
At the stroke of 12:01am on Wednesday January 17th fans were greeted with the long awaited expansion of World of Warcraft, The Burning Crusade. EBs around Australia had similar reception with most stores having queues in their hundreds, as gamers lined up at midnight to get their hands on the hottest title of 2007.
