The Burning Crusade - burning for a midnight launch

PC News | Australians having no shortage of options.
We all pretty much expected it - the expansion to the unlimited, unstoppable and unbelieveable MMORPG World of Warcraft is receiving a midnight launch around the country. Thousands of players will be queuing to receive their expansion, and as many WoW players already know, the midnight timeframe isn't a problem in the slightest.

The lowdown - every single EB games and Gameswizards store around the country will be open for business at 12:01 a.m. on January 17. In addition, a select number of Harvey Norman and independant retailers will be open - best to double-check with your local store for that one. The EB Games store in Chatswood is spearheading the launch, with various forms of entertainment and trivia will be underway. If you feel like dressing up as your favourite character, go ahead - you won't be the only one.

Despite being over two years old, World of Warcraft is still rocking the PC game sales charts, a statistic which was not nearly as prominent upon release. Word of mouth seems to spread, and WoW now hosts over 7.5 million subscribers around the world. Burning Crusade is the first official expansion - not counting the plethora of added content through patches, paid for via monthly subscription fees. Added content will include a raised level cap to 70, an entirely new continent to explore, a new jewelcrafting profession - and considering the size of the game so far, much more.

yeah, i won't be going at midnight.

even if i wanted to, i'm guessing the process of registering BC will be somewhat akin to the opening of AQ40, except across ALL servers. at once.

or like registering HL2.

If only there were more copies of the CE floating around icon_sad.gif

^ QFT.

i made my preorder in June last year, before an official announcement was even made regarding the expansion (though it was obvious it was coming) and i still missed out of one of the top 200 people at my store who get the CE version icon_sad.gif

At the GW I work at we have well over 60 pre-orders and 90% of them will most definitely be there at midnight.

It's going to be a long night.

only 60 orders?

how many CE copies are you getting, out of interest?

^I'm unsure, I'm thinking we'd get about 3 or 4, and they're already sold out icon_razz.gif

wow.

you gotta be pissed with that.

according to the guy at the EB i ordered at, they're getting 200 copies, and they're all gone, like i said, before the xpac was even officially announced.

Do you have to have the orginal WoW to play this or can you buy the $2 install WoW then buy burning crusade and install that and BAM!
you need the full version of the original.

you can get that for ~$20 anyway, so even with the xpac, it's still less than a full priced rrp game.

but how much does being a member cost with those little card thingys
5 years ago
i think the rrp was $40 for 2 months of play.

but you can usually find them for $30 or less depending on sales.

(all AUD prices.)

Nope. Not getting up at midnight.

I didn't pre-order either. I'll walk down to Big W or Target pick it up on the morning.
