S.T.A.L.K.E.R. images emerge

PC News | It's actually coming. Honest.
In what can only be described as the industry joke alongside Duke Nukem Forever, the frequently delayed S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl will finally see the day of light in 2007 and hopefully live up to its hype. Non-believers, choke on these latest screenshots.

First shown in 2001, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is a free-roaming first-person shooter set in the near future, shortly after a massive explosion at a nuclear power plant in Chernobyl. You’ll assume the role of a stalker, a person who lives in the Zone and makes a living collecting artefacts and selling them. Players will be able to interact with other NPCs in the Zone, joining guilds and receiving missions.

The long-awaited title will be released on the PC on March 16, 2007 – we’re still dreading the phonecall from THQ to say it’s delayed again, mind you.

Wow... that game is really coming along nicely (they've had enough time on it after all), that's got to be a contender for best graphics in 2007. The concept sounds pretty sweet too, going to be lots of mutants and stuff.

Oh wow has it really been that long! 2001!

I was talking about this in high school and TAFE and even then it was a bit of a joke about how much it has been delayed and that was about 2 or 3 years back!

I hope it actually happens because it shows promise but so far they have a complete lack of management in terms of getting this thing out as an actual product.

I wanted to be unimpressed considering how much they're jerking us around, but... damn, those look sweet.

This baby is prob my most anticipated game since HL2. I hope it scales and performs well on release also.

So, why is everyone so hyped about this game? I'm positive there's some catch I'm not aware of/ forgot about, but at the moment it's looking very Half Life 2/ Quake clone to me.

The graphics are impressive, but not as good technically as a game like Crysis or even some current-gen games. I really like the art direction though, it's actually quite Half-Life 2esque.

I'm hoping this game is good, but I'm not holding my breath.

Its a free roaming FPS, basically you are a bounty hunter and have to go about your ways to make a living. I'm sure there is a plot line in there somewhere but that's not the point.

Basically the big selling point is the usual stuff. Non linear, free roaming and huge scale, the Oblivion of FPS I suppose.

Image 5 out of 6 gives me chubby.
Seriously, I love the fact that it actually looks like a real place - a real place thats gone to the dogs. Very nice.

I really, really want to get to the top of the ferris-wheel... icon_razz.gif

Cant wait to play this game, I played the leaked beta and even that was good and that was in Direct X 7 or 8 while the final will be Direct X 9 icon_biggrin.gif.

At least it will play good on old systems.

Just hoping they release Mod Tools with it.

It's a free roaming FPS, what's not to love? Also I personally think that graphically that game trumps Crysis, although in the latter's defense it revolves around a forest and forests involve a lot more geometry than cities (at least in game land).

Oh and looking at those images that is easily some of the best texture work I have ever seen, especially in those underground corridors, add that to the myriads of pipes strewn above and there's a hell of a lot of detail just in that simple corridor.
