Crazy Chicken: Pirates Review

PC Review | Whatever happened to Sane, Sensible Chicken?
Ain’t nothing to it, poor folk of PALGN! Those who can’t afford the latest in shooting greatest may do well to pick up Crazy Chicken: Pirates. An extremely low-budget and low-interactivity title, Mindscape has added this to its repertoire of casual games, intended for limited depth yet maximum addiction levels.

The handy instructions tell you to left-click to shoot, and right-click to reload. That’s pretty much it. You’ll enter the level to fire madly with the mouse at various crazy chickens, decked out in pirate clothing and ready for some finger-lickin’ killing. Kill as many as possible, and shoot various other objects for bonuses to rack up your score. Once time runs out, you can try again to see if you can beat your score. You can rack up diamonds, coins and skull-and-crossbone targets. Pretty, pretty, pretty basic.

You killed all his buddies, of course he's mad.

Close
The only original aspect of this game is the style itself. Crazy Chicken is certainly no Crazy Frog, and provides good art design and slapstick humour. Crazy Chicken is a series that should (and will) last a long time for the casual gaming audience. As for Pirates, well, it’s maybe a little too shallow. Still great blasting action, albeit severely limited in maxing out replayability.

It should be noted that we aren’t scoring this in a comparable fashion to most full-fledged console games. It gets 5/10 for being playable while not necessarily a full game in the traditional sense. It gets an extra .5 for having a cool style, but loses a point for the rather limited gameplay, even by some “free internet game” standards. If you can dig wacky gameplay, and the reasonable price, it’s worth a look.
The Score
Don't go out of your way for it, but if you have an even $10 and it's sitting right in front of you, go nuts.
