Multiverse will be creating the game, and is setting out to stay true to the show. Fans will remember Malcolm Reynolds getting into all kinds of sci-swashbuckling adventures with his team - which conveniently enough is comprised of various tradesmen, including a pilot, soldier, mercenary, mechanic, priest and doctor. This fits the MMO mold perfectly, given that every character is built under a chosen class and race. Firefly also has its fair share of alien hoobyjoobies, so plenty to choose from there.
Corey Bridges, co-founder of Multiverse, hazards a guess that the game will feature some form of playability by 2008, but as yet no crack team of gung-ho developers with everything to prove has been formed. Who will make the draft? Taking bets now.
In addition to the unique and varied character possibilities, Firefly added all kinds of crazy locations to truly create a dynamic setting. Wild West style, futuristic urban environments, rural farmlands and greasy, mechanical spaceports are all up for digital treatment. Bridges made the comment: "This all springs from the genius that is Joss Whedon. It's rewarding beyond words to be able to hopefully be a footnote in the history of Firefly." Whedon seems to know his stuff, and also how to attract fans. Check it out.
Bridges wants to stick with the Firefly formula, without butchering any classic characters. "If you're doing science fiction, you have to really think it out and create an incredibly rich environment that is compelling in its own right, and worth exploring and going back to week after week. That's what Joss Whedon did with Firefly," Bridges told Wired.
"We want to find someone who wants to do something unique and fun and interesting, not just a re-skin of World of Warcraft or Star Wars Galaxies."
Sounds good to PALGN, we shall keep you informed. Firefly, away!
