F.E.A.R. was one of the best PC games released in 2005, picking up a swag of assorted awards, including a healthy 8.5 rating from us. Its FEARsome AI and generally creepy demeanour remains stuck in our heads to this very day.
In a ploy to help keep the game alive, Vivendi/Sierra have just announced that they will be releasing all the multiplayer bits from F.E.A.R. online as a free download later this month, under the guise of F.E.A.R. Combat. It's certainly a unique strategy, but we can't imagine you'll hear too many people complaining about it.
As well as having the original game's multiplayer content, all extra maps and modes added after release will be included in the download. It makes for a total of 10 game modes, 12 weapons and 19 maps, as well as other user-designed content.
If you want to be playing F.E.A.R. Combat, you're going to have to register online at www.joinfear.com, where you'll be mailed a keycode in order to get the game to work. A small price to pay, really.
F.E.A.R. Combat will be available to download on August the 18th.
