New Prey screenshots

PC News | Demo to be released next week.
2K Games have unleashed several new screenshots from the upcoming release of 3D Realms and Human Head’s upcoming first-person shooter Prey, which should be a thrilling exercise in alien annihilation when it hits shelves later next month.

The game follows the story of Tommy, a Cherokee garage mechanic stuck in a rut, going nowhere. His previously dull life soon gets turned upside-down as he and his people are abducted, and sent to an alien mothership orbiting the Earth, where he eventually finds himself saving more than just his life, but the life of his planet. The game will include all sorts of alien gizmos, allowing gamers to manipulate gravity, time and your physical position.

Gamers will finally get to sink their teeth in the anticipated title later next week with 3D Realms confirming a demo for both Xbox 360 and PC versions. The demo, to be released on Wednesday, June 21 at 21:00 PDT, will feature five levels containing both single player and multiplayer modes of the game. The demo will be available on various websites across the net, as well as on the Xbox Live Marketplace for Xbox 360 owners.

Am i missing something cause it ain't looking that good?

Pc gamers, out of all the gamers of the world, place looks on a pedestal, and if a game fails in that department, their isn't much else to be interested in, especially if were talking a fps(well of course were talking fps, you only had to mention 'pc game' to know it was a fps).

Tsk, i don't see what all the fuss is about.....

I'll wait for the demo before I make my judgement. I think that's the best thing to do.

Quite honestly i'm relying on this game (Prey) to pull it out of it's slump cuz quite honestly the only reason i've bought games for the xbox 360 (other than Oblivion) is because they are next-gen games and not because it's something that i've wanted to play. Infact i've had waaaaaay more fun with my DS: Lite in a couple of weeks than the whole time i've had with the 360 (which has been since launch)!

The online service has been great and the machine works well so the potential is there. Hopefully Prey and Dead Rising kick the box back into gear.

I agree,
I hope dead rising, prey and saints row can pull us out of this 360 games slump, Im really considering picking up a copy of Dynasty Warriors empires 5 for the 360 on june 29th, I think it could be well worth a look (its only taken forever for them to get it to Aus)

I bought a 360 to play next gen games too and ive been looking forward to prey and SR since before the 360 was even released(mainly oblivion blew me away but you finish it and its done kinda thing), but patience seems to be a virtue.

Though it is a major bitch to have your warrenty wasting away because theres not enough good games to play yet.
There are some great games out there for 360 dont get me wrong, but variety is the spice of life, and too many 360 games so far have been ports that would have been better left on the rest of the consoles.

Im all for some more 360 exclusive titles or some titles that will be compatible with windows vista, and id say because prey is made by 2K games then its going to be a highly polished piece of work that hasnt just been made so they can release it on every console.

As for the DS lite being more fun than the 360, I think the DS lite and NSMB has been a great way to get back to the roots of fun video games, i really enjoyed it.
Im still yet to find any other DS games that are good to play, but I havent tried alot, im sure my DS will prove to be mega fun though once I can use its Wi-Fi ability for multiplayer online etc.

I Hate not having ADSL icon_sad.gif

Man i'm so desperate for new games i'm looking foward to Doom 3 being emulated for the 360. And i'm also considering buying Ninety Nine Nights if that comes out when there are no other good games.

The DS Lite has only been more fun cuz of NSMB and Castlevania which are some of my favourite series and becuz I prefer 2d games.

Prey's gone gold, and the PC demo can be found here in 13ish hours from this post. The Xbox Live version may come out this week as well.

Doom 3 will disappoint you IMO. That's what my impression was when I played through it on PC (highest detail and such too). It's just so...repetetive.

3 more hours till Prey demo is downloadable. Hopefully it's not massive, and I HOPE that it's decently optimized. I HATE it when games are unoptimized. icon_confused.gif

Looking forward to this...checked for it first thing this morning, wasn't up yet. I guess I'll try when I get a chance later.

I'm expecting a lot out of this game.

I actually pre-ordered the pc version but it stuffed up once I got to hell and i've made it real far on the xbox version but then my xbox stuffed up. So don't worry....I know what to expect...and I just wanna see the ending. Plus I love mindless blasting....so i'm looking foward to it.

Thanks guys, I'll download when I'm at school tomorrow.
Well, at least is under 500mb.

Just downloaded the PC demo of Prey, but only checked it out quickly while installing BF2. Graphics look good, but not impressive with graphics set to the maximum and 4xAA.

Downloaded it tonight, I'm gonna fire it up now, I'll give you guys first impressions.

EDIT: Haven't had the time to complete the demo completely, but man am I really impressed by it. Firstly, the visuals are very very impressive and boasts what the Doom 3 engine can really do, and plus it's quite well optimized (I'm running on a 9800 pro, and get minimal lag on 1024x768 res, high detail, and this is without the latest drivers icon_razz.gif). Some of the effects are just sublime, and it really equals up to games like FEAR.
The gameplay overall is quite good atm, although I haven't done enough to justify an opinion on it yet. The atmosphere is freaking awesome too, with the artistic direction really helping it. Audio wise it sounds great, and the voice overs are quite well done and aren't totally cheese like alot of other games.

So far the game is really living up to my expectations and I'm enjoying it immensely. Can't wait to try Multiplayer icon_smile.gif

BUMP.

Played through Single Player, and I got a couple of rounds of multiplayer in (came first in all of them too icon_wink.gif)

Gameplay is absolutely brilliant. The gravitational stuff in the game is just trippy as, and really makes this game shine. The weapons are incredibly creative, for example the Leech gun, which fires like a normal weapon, although if you use secondary fire near these node things, it absorbs the energy and converts the plasma into a diff element (eg Ice, which freezes enemies, or fire which is I think the default). Also the spirit walking feature is awesome, lets you do some really nifty tricks and just overall kicks arse icon_smile.gif The graphics are AMAZING now, especially with the gravity stuff.

Multiplayer is a blast too. You try hitting some guy who's running around on the walls, then jumps down to your level, then out of nowhere jumps onto the ceiling. It's trippy as hell, but intense and very fun icon_smile.gif

Overall, if you have the comp power, download the demo and try it for yourself. It's excellent, and you won't be disappointed icon_smile.gif

For all those looking for the demo on the Live Marketplace, I just read at IGN that the 360 demo has been delayed, is still in testing and will most likely be released over the next few days.

I called MS toady to ask about a HDMI cable and weather it will be released.
Alas they had no info on it and when I enquired about the HD DVD player at the end of the year they were very tight lipped and would not disclose any information on it, let alone the fact it existed.

So im wondering what MSs next gameplan is? will HD DVD become reality afterall? or is this just like MS saying there would be a HDMI cable when the time is right type thing?

I know this has nothing to do with prey but im so goddamned annoyed I went to the trouble of buying a dual HDMI Lcd Tv and I cant even use the friggen sockets for my intended use.
I was told 1 month prior to buying my Tv that MS had a HDMI cable coming out on the 29th April I believe.
And still no news, MS better prove me wrong or at least bring somthing good to table come november.

PS The lady at MS didnt even know what HDMI was she kept say HD AV, HD AV so the MI looks grim icon_sad.gif

Demo pretty long actually, enjoying every bit of it.
Doom engines alright, though the character models really looks like dogs breakfast, other then that the environment looks amazing.
Gameplay was pretty good, though just fear that some may get sick of it after awhile.

^I'm enjoying Prey immensely, and don't think the gameplay will become dull quickly IMO. The multiplayer is so crazy, and it's the most f**ked fps multiplayer I have ever played icon_razz.gif

While the game plays absolutely brilliantly (the first time I entered the portal into the round planet-object into the room I was absolutely blown away) the constant shifting of gravity actually made me feel some motion sickness. Anyone else get a bit of this?
^I got a bit of a headache when I played multiplayer because of the sudden obscure views and such from walking up walls, and the gravity shifting in one part of the level made me feel a bit dizzy.
