Age of Empires III demo released

PC News | Get ready to conquer the ancient world. Again.
Real-time strategy fans will be glad to hear that a demo for the third incarnation in Microsoft's Age of Empires series has just been released for the masses. For those out of the loop, Age of Empires puts you in control of an ancient civilization, and asks you to guide it through various stages in order to thrive, and, of course, kill those who dare oppose you.

One of the more intriguing new features in the game is that of a home city. Throughout a campaign, you see it grow and develop, depending on your success throughout the rest of the new world. On top of that, it can also send you supplies, troops and so on. Handy.

Age of Empires III also claims to have some of the best graphics out there right now, and if the demo is anything to go by, they might be right. Plus, a new physics engine has been implemented, which is nice.

Sound interesting? Want to play it? You can download the demo from the official website, as well as any other good file network. Remember though, it is a steep 368MB file.

Buy me a PC that can run this?

Looks decent, although the now-ancient Desperados had graphics almost as good as this.

Yet somehow, I imagine I won't be able to run this for the life of me.

Anyone who can, impressions would be nice. Is the new gfx engine functional in a an RTS like this?

I remember playing Desperados, I only had the demo, and I was pretty young, but boy did I really enjoy that game!

So now, we have another AoE game soon to be released. I would download the demo, but as some of you may know I'm still running the crappy 800mhz (if anyone wants to donate parts, I'm willing to accept icon_razz.gif).

So, back in the day I spent countless hourse playing AoE 1 and 2. How does AoE 3 put up to the challenge? Does it compete with the original, besides graphics? Or is the gameplay pretty much the same?

as soon as i get my PC back i plan to dl this

(and 368MB isn't that large for a demo these days, the DungeonSiege 2 demo was 1.3GB)

Well I just played a bit of it earlier this afternoon and looks and runs pretty good at 1280 with almost everything turned onto maximum, got a little bored with it though when I realised it was like any other RTS game, and I didn't really have the time to get bogged down into statting up my team.
