Sam & Max return on the cards?

PC News | Speculation grows as creator hints at a comeback.
The man behind Sam & Max, the superb dog and rabbit duo who starred in the excellent Sam and Max Hit the Road of a few years back, has said that he'd quite like to get back into making games. And in a recent interview with Gamasutra that you can read here, Steve Purcell also admitted that he still owns the character rights to the lovable pair.

Purcell, who has worked as an artist on Zak McKracken, Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade, The Secret Of Monkey Island, The Secret Of Monkey Island 2 and Loom, told Gamasutra, 'Would I get back into games? Sure. The [Sam & Max] license is back in my hands now so we'll see what happens in the near future.'

So whilst it isn't much to go on just yet, for fans of the quirky duo it's a thread of hope at the very least. A sequel was scheduled for release in 2003 after the 1993 original met with huge critical acclaim, though was mysteriously canned shortly after by LucasArts. But for now, it looks like there's a slim chance of a return - PALGN advises watching this space.

And for those young'uns amongst you who haven't a clue what we're gibbering about, it's probably best to go here.

Great news if it happens.

I loved Sam and Max, most of the LucasArts games where a enjoyment to play including the brilliant Monkey Island Series.

I remember seeing some screens for the new game some time ago. It was in full 3D, which kind of had me worried. Most adventure games don't really seem to work in a 3D enviornment, compared to their 2D conterparts anyway.
