The Weekend Steam - 18/12/10

PC News | The worms are waiting.
With only 6 more sleeps until Santa arrives, there is still time to give the gift of game this Christmas with some great titles on special this weekend on the Steam store. This weekend's deal revolves around of one gaming's most loved franchises, Worms with Worms Reloaded available at half price this weekend only.

There are only 9 titles on sale this week, which as we know is the calm before the storm that is the Steam Christmas sale arrives. While this selection is small, the quality is anything but with a number of great titles available. Indie gamers looking for something fun to play would do well to check out both Bob Came in Pieces and Zombie Driver - two great little time wasters that definitely won't hurt the budget. Strategy and simulation fans also have a good mix of titles to chose from with Civilization 5, Football Manager 2011[/i] and the Railworks 2 Falmouth Branch Expansion Pack to choose from. Rounding out the list is a couple of titles for the shooter and roleplaying lovers amongst us with The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and Monday Night Combat available for pre-order.

Well that's just bizarre. "Falmouth Branch Expansion Pack" is the local train line for my small town in the far south west of the UK. Not often I see it mentioned... well anywhere, ever. Let alone being advertised for a sale.

Zombie Driver is a nice "time waster", mow down Zombies carmageddon style... but with an original GTA top down style viewpoint.

I certainly hope the sub-heading was a Pink Floyd reference.

Yer.. I was a little disappointed with the weekend offering... all except for "Bob Came In Pieces", which is a brilliant game. I've only managed to get myself up to Chapter 7 so far (according to the store page there is 25 chapters).. the puzzles are all physics based and the idea of having to switch the parts of your ship to solve them may not be groundbreaking, it certainly feels unique in its presentation.

That "Dive To The Titanic" thing.. meh.. for people interested in that kinda thing it might be ok.. but it's the type of title you would have expected to be free from Discovery Channel or something like that.. certainly not a mid-priced "game".. *shrugs*

"Zombie Driver" is also slightly enticing but I would prefer something more along the lines of AlienBreed/AlienSwarm than a seemingly pointless driving around and squishing things affair. Seems like something you'd buy for iPhone/iPad...

Steam sales exploded today. Everything is on sale again. Pitty I own every game I want on steam already. The daily sales will be the main thing to look out for though.
