The Weekend Steam - 13/11/10

PC News | Race over and grab yourself a bargain.
This weekend Steam has firmly set its price slashing sights on the open-wheel racing title F1 2010, cutting the cost of the title by 33% until Monday.

Pickings are quite slim this weekend with only five titles on the sales block, but gamers of most genres are sure to find something of interest in this digital bargain bin. For the role-playing gamer there's Risen, while the strategy gamer might be interested in taking a peek at Guardians of Graxia. The casual set are well covered yet again with Poker Night at the Inventory remaining on sale and for those looking to get ready for another round of the jeweled puzzle action, Bejeweled 3 is on sale, gearing up for the title's release early next month.

The PALGN racing team spent some quality time with F1 2010 last month and we found the experience to be quite positive. You can check out our thoughts of the game here.

All specials available this week:

F1 2010: US $40.17 / AU $40.70 / GBP £20.92
Bejeweled 3: US $17.99 / AU $18.23 / GBP £13.49
Guardians of Graxia: US $8.99 / AU $9.11 / GBP £5.39
Poker Night at the Inventory: US $4.49 / AU $4.55 / GBP £2.92

I bought risen. Not 100% sure why. Has some really nice looking environments. Character design is beyond awful though.

Yup - Risen (RC). Something about a weed with beneficial effects I believe

Yeh in risen, smoking 'swampweed' gives you a tiny amount of xp or something. which is stupid and shows how dumb our classifications are, because gothic 1-4 ( even the new arcania) all have swampweed ( i know in 1-3 you smoke it for benefits)

It's called Brugleweed.

Game is pretty awesome too, probably one of the best in the "free roam fantasy" style on the current gen of consoles... not that there's a huge collection of said games beyond this and Oblivion.

Apparently "Risen" has some kinda weird DRM on it when sold through Steam.. something called TAGES? I'm not sure what all the fuss is about but it was being slammed pretty heavily, more so than normal for DRM-slamming, for having this particular DRM. What's so bad about this particular DRM? I don't mind DRM, it's darn annoying when there is 2 or 3 layers of DRM but I can live with it if I like the game.. but something about the way these people were talking about TAGES, had me wary of buying this title.

and saints row 2, smoking blunts give you back half your health, which is exactly the same as in risen....it is a disgraceful show of the inconsistency in our lame ratings system
