Rumour: Details for Mass Effect 2's PlayStation 3 release

PC News | One small step for Shepard, one giant leap for Sony.
Only a couple of months ago BioWare revealed that their epic space opera Mass Effect 2 was heading over to the PlayStation 3 in January 2011. Since then, however, BioWare has been very quiet on how this release of the second game in the trilogy would handle introducing the story of the first game, and has refused to comment on rumours that the PlayStation 3 build would feature any bundled content.

Well, if the grapevine is to be believed then we finally have some details on what this package will contain. According to a post on the official BioWare forums, the PlayStation build of Mass Effect 2 will contain;

  • An interactive comic from Dark Horse that retells the story of Mass Effect, while allowing players to make narrative choices that will carry on through to their Mass Effect 2 character.
  • Access to the Cerberus Network and all it's associated downloadable content, much like the Xbox 360 and PC builds.
  • Bundled previously released downloadable mission packs Kasumi: Stolen Memory, Overlord, and Lair of the Shadow Broker.
  • A new mission with roughly six hours of gameplay.

At this point, PALGN is marking this information as a rumour, due to the lack of an official announcement from BioWare and EA Games. However, it should be noted that the moderators of the official BioWare forums are often a reliable source of information, and thus this news has a high probability of truth.

I didnt get any of the downloadable content on the 360 version due to me not hooking it up to the net. Im seriously thinking about re purchasing this on PS3 with all these extras...

Would be awesome to hear any news about new DLC or possibly expansion news for ME2. Before they normally tried to get one DLC out every month (even if it was a weapon pack). Now it has been two months since the Shadow Broker and i am left thinking they might be leading up to something...

Wow, if thats true I will seriously consider buying it on PS3. All the DLC (that I haven't played) would nearly make it worth it by itself. The fact that the PS3 is my primary console and I could play ME3 on it would be another bonus. But I am going to wait to see how the game performs first. Alot of the time when games go from being 360/PC exclusive they have trouble with some of the conversion because of the shortcuts developers have taken that are unique to the hardware.

the new mission better come out as DLC on 360. I'm gunna be massivley cut if they decide that it's PS3 exclusive.

I'm now hoping for a GOTY Edition for Xbox 360 with the same extras. Hoping. It'd be a nice little incentive for me to finally buy the game. I don't really want to spend hours playing the game on my brother's PS3, so I really don't want to have to buy the PS3 version.

Sony normally requires a minimum of a small piece of exclusive content for ports that are late to the paty.

This is true, but I hope if that's the case its the interactive comic.

A six hour exclusive mission pack will lead to a good few bricks through BioWare's windows.
