Mass Effect 2 comes to PlayStation 3

PC News | Better late than never.
A lot of people have played and enjoyed the Mass Effect franchise, but some have never had the opportunity. There are a number of potential roadblocks we could mention, but one specifically comes to mind; not owning the right console.

Previously available only on the Xbox 360 and PC platforms, BioWare has today announced at the Gamescom convention in Germany that Mass Effect 2 will finally be making its way to the PlayStation 3.

The release will contain 'hours of bonus content', though it is unknown as to whether or not this will be new, exclusive content, or simply current and future downlodable content included on the disk. Mass Effect 2 for the PlayStation 3 is locked in for a release January 2011. While you wait, why not check out the brief announcement teaser?

It's good that more people will get to experience the game, but I just can't see how it's going to feel complete without the ability to import your characters from ME1.

Damn it, beaten by Jarrod in this news as I just saw it on Facebook and went nuts.

Agree with fupoisme though. They should've had maybe a combined ME and ME2 or at least release ME as well! Or have the import system cross-platform compatible!

They should port ME1 first. You really need to play it to get the best out of ME2.

Well I didn't expect this. I have no idea whether to buy it or not.

Quite a surprise, even though I already have the 360 version, I'll probably get this one icon_biggrin.gif

I bet the people Microsoft HQ died a little inside when they heard this story......

They have to do something in regards to bring Mass Effect 1 weither have it on the disc or have DLC. As I'm having a Ps3 only, I doubt I would buy this on day 1 if I hadn't play the first one. Not that it would stop me buying this game eventually but still

Uh, "YOU HAVE TO PORT THE FIRST ONE! OR ELSE I'LL... well, I'll still buy it. I mean, geez" isn't a very strong argument yo icon_wink.gif

Cool to see ME love being shared to the other side of the fence. Don't understand why they wouldn't put the first one out... well, first. Can only imagine there's some annoying legal business holding it back?

Edit: Should probably put this under PS3 news rather than PC, eh?

Only on Xbox 360.
EA published it for PC.

It ticks me off just a bit as I brought a 360 specifically because of Bioware. Although I can't complain too hard as I still got to play it first

Mass Effect 2 is my favourite game of 2010 so far - I'm thrilled PS3 owners will be able to share the awesome experience I had on PC. icon_smile.gif

Though I question the logic of releasing it without the original Mass Effect there - another of my favourite games of all time. The ability to import your character is, I believe, one of ME2's strongest points (besides like, every other aspect of it icon_razz.gif).

yeah lump me in with the group that question how well this will work without ME1, I mean a lot of games work fine on there own but ME was built so heavily on the previous game that it just seems weird. Especially since they will be locked into the default play through which will render a bunch of stuff inaccessible for PS3 playthroughs (Like saving the council, having a previous relationship etc)

Interested to see what the new content is though, if it's something awesome I'm gunna be pissed off about having to buy the game twice though.
