Call of Duty: Black Ops Special Edition revealed

PC News | For all the voyeurs out there.
Fans of the Call of Duty franchise might remember the last iteration, Modern Warfare 2, launching with a number of different packages. Of particular note was the 'Prestige Edition', which came with a pair of commercial grade night vision goggles. Unsurprisingly, the package sold well, which leads to the upcoming Call of Duty Black Ops receiving its very own 'Prestige Edition'.

As reported by Kotaku, the big extra included in the Prestige Edition is the RC-XD Surveillance Vehicle, a remote control car similar to that which appears in the game. What this means is that the remote control car is equipped with both a colour camera and microphone, with all footage and audio transmitted back to a screen and speaker on the car's controller.

The 'Prestige Edition' will also come with all extras included in the 'Hardened Edition', which includes a limited edition medal, Black Ops avatar outfit, and four co-op maps.

Activision has yet to give official pricing on the 'Prestige Edition', but a listing on GameStop over in the United States has it set for US$150, which coverts to roughly AU$170.

Keke.. and so the "price of importing" issue raises its ugly head again. That's quite a mark-up though, considering the cost to ship a container costs peanuts by comparison to the value of the contents, and that includes the packing and unpacking at either end, I find it outrageous that games/DVDs are marked up so much.

I came across this interesting factoid about a similar thing a couple of years ago. Not sure if it's still the case but at that time Australia was importing bananas from South America because despite them being vaccuum packed and transported in refridgerated containers from one side of the world to the other, it still worked out cheaper than the cost of growing/producing/packing/marketing Australian bananas...

So.. the whole "price is more expensive due to shipping and marketing" arguement is moot.

I noticed GAME also have a LE, any word about what's included in it and if it's likened to the Hardened Edition of MW2.

Yeah, I think this is better than the night vision googles from last year, I ordered mine today.

Console only?

No thanks.

Definitely an improvement over the completely useless night-vision goggles, but $225 is a bit too much for my liking, especially when Treyarch are the ones behind it.

Black Ops will probably be a very good shooter, and I'll pick it up at some stage. I just hope the Infinity Ward vs. Activision saga finishes up so that Modern Warfare 3 can become a reality. At this stage, I'm worried.

There's nothing stopping a Modern Warfare 3 from happening, I dont think, its just not going to be made by a vast majority of the original MW/MW2 team.

That's exactly what worries me. The main creative drive has left, or been sacked, or whatever.

Even though I agree with trying to separate Modern Warfare from the CoD franchise, it looks like it backfired badly. Copyright and money; making the world a less creative place for everyone.

pre ordered and picking this up - have to save up from now till november - it's not that hard - just skip coffee every alternate day and the occasional takeaway.... that is how I got the MW2 Prestige -this should be the same effort...

I only found this out last night when some little American kid was screaming in my mic. I asked what's up? And he announced the release. I then shot him a couple of times. I agree with all this overprice thing when our dollar is fairing pretty well. I pre-ordered this morning and apparently vendors were told to go crazy in making pre-orders since they didn't give them a number of amount that is going to be available per store.
