Announced by USA Today, the title is set to be the premiere game of 38 Studios, which formed four years ago under Curt Schilling, whom baseball fans will recognise as six-time All-Star pitcher and major leaguer, and also a very passionate gamer.
To create his dream game, Curt Shilling has collected a star studded group of developers to bring his vision to life. Todd McFarlane (creator of Spawn) will use his artistic brilliance to bring the world to life, while Big Huge Games (best known for Rise of the Nations) will be heading development. Among the development team are industry veterans such as Ken Rolston (Morrowind, Oblivion), Mark Nelson (Oblivion, Fallout 3), and Erik J. Caponi (Oblivion, Fallout 3), with another industry veteran Grant Kirkhope working on the music, who is best known for work on Goldeneye and Banjo-Kazooie. On top of this, the story is being penned by R.A. Salvatore, who fantasy readers might know as the author of The DemonWars Saga and The Ghost King.
The goal is to create a deep, rich fantasy world to support multiple franchise entries, from games to novels, and R.A. Salvatore has promised to deliver a Tolkienesque 10,000 year long back story.
Gameplay details are thin, but the main goal is to retain the complexity of role playing titles, while delivering action game intensity, hoping the game will be "a breath of fresh air".
The official website can be found here, and while its rather empty, it promises a cinematic reveal in the next day or two. Stay tuned!
