Portal 2 Delayed

PC News | Surprise! Not.
Keeping with Valve tradition, today the company announced by press release that their upcoming space altering puzzle shooter Portal 2 will not meet its intended 2010 release date, instead slipping into an unspecified 2011 release.

The humorous press release, titled "VALVE ANNOUNCES MAKING GAMES IS HARD", will probably come as no surprise to longtime fans of the company, as Valve are well known for delaying majority of their titles in favour of better game quality. Regarding the delay, the press release went on to remind us that "all life on earth won't instantaneously stop as every molecule in your body explodes at the speed of light, which is what would happen should a rip ever appear in the fabric of Valve Time". Oh, Valve.

Regarding the supposed E3 surprise that Valve had mentioned not too long ago, the press release confirms it is Portal 2 related, wording it specifically as the "E3 ***PORTAL-2-THEMED-FOR-GOD'S SAKE*** surprise". Sorry, Half-Life fans, but Episode 3 will just have to wait.

Valve did confirm though that Portal 2 will be at E3, so fans can look forward to hands-on reports in the coming week.

Hmmmm, I've noticed a pattern emerging.
It seems companies who delay their games make awesome stuff. So delay all you want, Valvey!

Well I think Alpha Protocol would disagree with you Esposch!

I agree with Esposch there, I'd rather see this delayed if it will mean it ensures more of the kinks can be ironed out.

@Esposch You've forgotten Daikatana and Duke Nukem Forever already?

Hey, Duke Nukem might still be released ONE day. And what a great day it won't be...

Anyhow, this makes me kind of annoyed about all the Mac releases, since there's little doubt in my mind that supporting Mac would have used (and will continue to use) a substantial amount of developer time.

As for the announcement - I'm thinking that we'll see Portals (pluralised like the Alien sequel). And this time, it will be Multiplayer, or at least Coop.

Valve already announced Portal 2 will include co-op

And I think I'd disagree with you, JP.

Anyway, it sucks that we won't see the game this year, but at least we know it's getting the kind of development times it deserves. Portal 1 won't be easy to top.
