Crysis 2 runs better and looks better

PC News | Will also have 3D, and support indie people, dude.
Speaking at a keynote speech at the Indie Game Developer Summit, director of Global Business Development Carl Jones claims that upcoming pretty-boy game Crysis 2 will have "lower system requirements, and look better than the original".

Though this is already well documented with the upcoming game, Jones also went on to say that CryENGINE 3 will support full stereoscopic 3D, and CryTEK will showcase it in the coming days at GDC.

There will also be an alternate version to the engine available for use for indie developers, and it will be priced a lot lower than general licenses. "At Crytek, we believe in the concept of WYSIWYG — What You See Is What You Game — so when you are developing something with our tools you'll know what it looks like on all three popular platforms, the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3," he said.

Crytek's upcoming shooter is slated for a Q3 2010 release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. Meanwhile for students and aspiring modders, CryENGINE 3 can be downloaded for free on MyCryENGINE right now.

Yeeeuuuccck! Wot a cheesey and naff thing to say.

Good on them for optimising their game engine though. The original Crysis was a resource hog of epic preportions (that's naff to say too - oh the irony)!!!

I hope there's different views or something they need to switch through. There's no way the consoles can display the same stuff as a top-notch PC.

Now if only I could afford a top-notch PC =\

Well of course not, all you need to is look at anything else that's tried. Fallout 3, Far Cry 2, and Dragon Age: Origins spring to mind

Of course you don't need to spend insane amounts of money to get a PC that will run these things better than a console, you do need to learn about system optimization, resource management and overclocking though. All important things, no matter what level gaming PC you possess.

This will look best on the xbox360 guarranted, no one will be able to plaY it on the pc so that counts that one out already and As since this will be a pc port the ps3 version is going to suffer, so the 360 wins again. Amen

No one will be able to play it? Obviously you still think hardware hasn't advanced since the Crysis 1 launch, which can now be maxed easily on the right hardware, and I assume Crysis 2 will be able too.

Not really, unless you mean crossfire or SLI setups with several cards...

The 5970 can play it on very high at 1920x1080 easily, and the 5850 can play it pretty good too. Even the 295 can, although obviously not as good as the 5970...

Except 1920x1080 isn't maxed... that's practically the minimum resolution these days.

It is if you only have a 1920x1080 monitor.

5970, two evergreens crossfired onboard. The 295 is probably two 8000 series chips SLIed onboard as well.

One can only hope they actually implement some AI in this one.

I will buy this if it gets good reviews because I actually quite enjoyed the first one and it had to be the best looking game I have played so far, and I like how it gave me a lot of freedom and options to approach things how I liked.

I really wanted to enjoy the first one - it looked sexy, had some very cool details and features, but it just wasn't engaging the whole way through. Hoping the second one keeps my interest, and given the city tech they've been showing off it just might!

Was only talking about how I'm jack of the whole 'high-end PC' business, but I might just be tempted to go in for another by this...

I'm in a similar boat. Enjoyed Crysis enough to play through it a couple of times, dick around with the editor, and play Warhead, but I dont think Crytek really nailed the idea as well as they should have.

Hopefully they can pull it off with this. I'm really interested in this indy dev support, since I'd like a robust community to mod for.
