The Weekend Steam - 16/1/10

PC News | Get dirty.
Again, it's a pretty quiet on the Steam sales front, but this weekend's Steam deal makes up for the lack of selection on offer with Colin McRae DiRT 2 on sale for USD $19.99 / AUD $21.66 / GBP £14.99, giving gamers a saving of 50% off this weekend.

Featuring both single-player and online multiplayer capabilities there is plenty of off-road action to sate even the most die hard racing fan. The PALGN team thought quite highly of the title when we took it for a spin a few months back. You can check out our review of the title here.

After the big holiday sales all these deals just seem meh...

I'd normally pick up DirT 2 in a heartbeat, as it's really good. The problem however is that it has some compatibility issues with 64 bit OS's, namely in its sound. Couldn't get the demo running regardless of solutions.

That is an awesome deal though.

win 7 64 bit here, no problems... your pro active and updated whatever sound hardware drivers ur using? also, the pre windows 7 soundblaster x fi cards arent completely compatible with windows 7 no matter what, and the majority of games sound no better with x-fi has its not supported. if ur using x-fi and have the option of onboard sound, use on board sound.

^I'm using onboard sound, it just seems to be a problem with OpenAL and the fact that the game tends to use 32-bit versions of the software. It's a pretty common issue atm on the official forums which hits random people. I might play with the demo again some more and see if I can get it running.

Using 64 bit Win 7 here, had no problems with the demo, downloading the game now.
