Team Fortress 2 free weekend starts

PC News | To the victor goes the spoils.
The Team Fortress 2 War update has recently gone live and to celebrate this latest major update Valve is giving gamers the chance to play the title for free this weekend. As well as a free weekend, gamers yet to purchase the title can also pick the game for 50% this weekend.

The 'War' has finally ended with Valve declaring the Soldier class victor over the Demoman, thus earning the fourth unlockable, The Gunboats - a pair of boots which soaks up a majority of damage done through rocket jumping.

The Soldier will also be able to unlock: The Direct Hit - a rocket launcher with a 70% smaller blast radius than a traditional rocket launcher. But this is balanced out by the fact that rockets from this launcher move 80% faster and do 25% more damage, The Equalizer - a pickaxe which becomes more deadly as you take more damage, letting your Soldier move faster and hit harder as you endure more pain, with the final unlockable for the Soldier class being The Buff Banner, which when equipped will let you build up a rage meter as you inflict damage onto your opponents to fill up a rage meter. Once full, you can then activate your bugle and "sound a call to war!" A feat which will bestow the power of mini-crits to any teammate that rallies by your flag for the next fourteen seconds.

The Demoman also receives some new kit in the form of The Eyelander - a sword which boosts your Demoman's maximum health and speed as he decapitates enemies, The Chargin’ Targe - a shield weapon which can be used for both offensive (charging enemies) and defensive (gives players +50% fire damage resistance and +65% blast damage resistance) purposes, with the final Demoman unlockable being the Scottish Resistance, a sticky bomb launcher with a more defensive focus as it allows players to lay down twice as many sticky bombs as its regular counterpart, as well as the ability to destroy enemy sticky bombs. The SR also allows players to set more effective traps for unknowing opponents thanks to the ability to detonate a group of bombs that the Demoman is looking at rather than the entire load at once, making the Demoman an excellent defensive force.

Rounding out the gameplay additions to the update is the new ability to smelt unwanted items and craft them into items that you don't have. Though all items won't be available for crafting from the get go, players will have to earn blueprints before being able to craft a particular item.

Last, but certainly not least is the two new maps on offer. This time around Valve have included a new control point map titled Gorge and a capture the flag map titled Doublecross which can be seen in our media panel images below.

But rather than reading about it, why not fire upTeam Fortress 2 and try out all these cool new additions for yourself for free this weekend.
