The Weekend Steam - 28/11/09

PC News | Santa comes to Steam early this year.
With December just around the corner, the Steam 'Early Holiday Sale' has just kicked off, giving gamers some excellent one-day bargains on some of the top-flight titles on the digital distribution platform. The weekend Steam deal has been put on the backburner for now, with the Early Holiday sale whipping up new sales offers every day until next Monday (Tuesday for us Australian folk). KoTOR is $2.50US at the moment for those interested.

Argh, I couldn't help but buy KotOR, even though I have the disc version on my shelf. But, in my defence, my shelf is way over there on the other side of the room.

Curse you Steam! Curse you for being so fantastically awesome! Jade Empire for $2.50 would be nice, too, if you're listening!

Steam is getting pretty ridiculous for me now, about 1 in 3 purchases on my credit card are from steam :O. But it's hard to complain when it has saved me literally thousands of dollars icon_smile.gif. Long live steam!

That entire LucasArts pack looks awesome - I own more than half of them but have lost discs in various house moves, and I don't know if they would run on Win7 anyhow...

Someone talk me out of buying Dark Forces and KOTOR and Secret of Monkey Island!

These sales are so good. And I can just tell in the next few days, a game will be cheap and I won't be able to resist buying it, even though I am broke.

Mini Ninjas is $14.99 not $2.99.

At first was MEH at KOTOR; but at $2.50 and finding out its unmetered on GA I decided maybe it was worth a go.

Downloading now. Hopefully it lives up to the hype.

A sale on Deus EX GOTY tomorrow would be awesome..

I'd recommend reading the forums for the older games, apparently a lot of people have problems not being able to get them to work, or at least work correctly (eg didn't update Jedi Knight to support modern video cards so the graphics are only at the lowest quality, and some games don't have music).

Luckily for steam, they provide a forum that helps. Take for example, Dark Forces. If you go to the steam page for it here, scroll down to the very end to find

Note: Due to the age of the title, users may run into a few compatibility issues from use of current hardware. Please see the forums for more information.
But thanks for that Mr Waffle, I almost forgot about older games may require extra reading icon_biggrin.gif

Why can't steam be more like GoG?

^ i think your missing Trine on that new list.

Ghostbusters - AUD $11 doesnt seem to be up there. A search on steam only brings up 2 X trailers .___.

Borderlands is down from its inflated Australian price, and is now equal to what the Americans NORMALLY pay (who are currently getting a sale price of US$33)...

^^^^^^ Yeah Mr Waffle i don't get that either hey. What does it cost us extra for shipping through steam hahah. I just don't get it....

Basically publishers can choose the price at which the game goes up on Steam, and they can decide different prices and availability for different parts of the world. It's a compromise which has meant more publishers are ready to get on board Steam.

Valve and several others are fine with having a worldwide price, but others keep the same RRP for their Retail and Electronic distributions as not to undercut brick and mortar stores.

EA's downloader distribution platform was a classic example of this also, being the only ones to charge full price for a lot of games you could get for $20-60 cheaper in stores, and once you download it, you have to buy it again if you delete it.

Also if you share around the l4d four pack its only $5.50.

Battlefield 2 is so super tempting since I've heard nothing but good things about it.. but from the looks of it, I might be better off just playing mw2.
Yeah, same. Battlefield for me is only good on multiplayer... was going to get Lucidity but then looking at the score.... I might give today's steam sale a miss.

Still undecided on whether or not to get the LucasArts pack or just give it a miss. I guess I should calculate which games I will play and see if it weights up (doubt it though since I have KotOR, Dark Forces 2 and Jedi Academy on CD and Secret of Monkey Island on steam)

GET LUCIDITY!

That game is all kinds of awesome. It's the perfect platformer, really easy to get the groove of it, but INSANELY hard to master. Also I play it on 360 with a gamepad, it would be a lot better on the PC with a mouse.

Got Lucidity last night icon_biggrin.gif Played 2 levels and definitely hooked on the style and music of the game..though when placing the little platforms and whatever, it seems a bit too lag.. but other than that; totally worth every cent.

In other news; new bargains up!

Call of Juarez; Bound in blood - 20.99
Secret of monkey island - SE- $2.49
Quantz - $2
Section 8 - $32.99
Mirror's Edge - $4.99
Dawn of discovery - $34.99
Evil Genius - $2.49
Chronicles of Riddick - Assault on Dark Athena - $9.99

*edit*

Quantz and Evil Genius aren't hosted on GA- FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
