Next WoW expansion set to add additional races?

PC Rumour | Warcraft to receive two new playable races in next expansion.
Earlier today rumours surfaced on WoW.com stating that the next World of Warcraft expansion will contain two new playable races.

According to the website's sources, the next expansion - which is said to be titled Cataclysm - will contain the Goblin race for the Horde, while the Alliance will receive the werewolf like Worgen race.

Blizzard is remaining tight lipped at this time, though it is likely that the company will respond to the rumour at the annual BlizzCon convention, which begins next week.

I doubt it but would like it if it were true.

I'd like a new class more...

this ll started a couple of weeks ago when I think some people datamined some models out of the latest patch that had models that were usually only for playable characters but they were goblin and worgen.

It's not models of playable characters, they were textures of new masks for the Halloween type event.

New races half a year after the Death Knight was released, which already kinda screwed around with the balance of the gameplay? Doubtful. Worgen aren't really a part of the playable lore either, and why they'd be Alli is beyond me. Goblins are 'sort of' believable but they're more mechanical with their abilities than anything, they've rarely ever been in battle as warriors and casters etc iirc.

I'd rather see them refine the game and introduce better things rather than more playable races. That being said though, I quit after finishing endgame in Wrath so either way I'm not all that fussed.

Expansion #3 isn't actually due for at least 12 to 18 months, but the official announcement should come this month along with confirmation of new races, if there are to be new races.

Whether you like it or not, WoW is still reigning MMO champ by several thousand miles, whatever they come up with ought to be good. I wouldn't have thought the WC3 Draenei made good playable races but they sexed them up pretty well for TBC. Any new races would probably get the same treatment.

1 or 2 new classes starting at 55 would be great, but they would cause way more imbalance than adding new races. I think perhaps they should just enhance the existing 10 classes with maybe a 4th talent tree or something of the sort. I mean, how many players have played all 10?

Old news....

This has been on mmo-champion for a few weeks, where they found facial textures for goblin and worgen (male/female).

A lot of people have been banned on the official forums talking about this rumor and in turn spreading more.

I was convinced the next expansion would be 'The Emerald Dream'.
Also, it makes no sense whatsoever for Worgen to join the alliance (still, better than the space paladins that came with the Burning Crusade). WoW just keeps on raping the Warcraft lore icon_sad.gif

I thought the introduction of the Draenei was done quite well and fit the universe fine. Some other small gripes here and there, but overall the story department is doing a pretty fine job.

I'm surprised given the popularity of Twilight that we don't get vampires! - and that would actually be very cool, could be the Horde race so you can have werewolf vs vampire battles/general storylines. And look at how much vampire fiction has come out. Would it be a big leap to assume this could be in the cards sometime?

And Cataclysm if it is the new name is a giveaway for a maelstrom expansion.

The event where the well of eternity was destroyed was called the cataclysm and it split the world from one big continent to what we know now. And where the well of eternity once stood is the centre of the maelstrom

I had heard an interesting take on this rumour which would make sense from a lore perspective. Goblin and Worgen could start as neutral in their respective starting zones. On leaving the zone, these races choose a faction via a questline to ally themselves with, much like the Oracles/Frenzyheart options in WLK.

I guess we'll know soon enough after Blizzcon.

I just bought WoW, and I found myself intimidated by the amount of races and classes, I think there is more then enough, but I suppose I can't say if new races are needed or not seeing as I have only been playing a week.

For now I am just happy running around killing things as a Bear.
