LucasArts Classics coming to Steam on 8 July

PC News | Digging up the old classics.
In a move that will bring girlish squeals to the lips of many classic adventure gaming fans, LucasArts have annouced via a press release today that they have begun an intiative to revive its back catalogue as digital downloads.

LucasArts will be releasing these games through Steam, and the first round of ten releases will be released on the service this Wednesday, 8 July, with more to come following this initial release. The first round is a mix of old and new, with old favourites such as The Dig, LOOM and Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis being released alongside LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventure. The LucasArts Twitter has also revealed that the older games have been worked on to make them compatible with both Windows XP and Vista. This is just the beginning.”

Their first round of offerings includes:
  • Armed and Dangerous™
  • Indiana Jones® and the Fate of Atlantis
  • Indiana Jones® and the Last Crusade: The Graphic Adventure
  • LEGO® Indiana Jones: The Original Adventure
  • LOOM™
  • Star Wars Battlefront® II
  • Star Wars Republic Commando®
  • Star Wars Starfighter™
  • The Dig®

This was a bit of a disappointment. Considering the build up Lucasarts employed, I'm sure most people, as was I, were expecting the announcement of some NEW titles, not digital releases of old ones.

New titles have been announced with Monkey Island episode one due this month.

And its hardly disappointing - considering some of us where going to spend $90 on indy jones wii just for Atlantis, its great news.....bring on DOTT

of course the question is do we get "talkie" versions

If by that you mean voiced, then yes. They said in their Twitter that the older adventure games will be presented in their full 256-colour form and fully voiced or 'full talkie'.

This is a very good announcement. Not great but definitely welcome. Would have preferred them on GOG but I'll put up with Steam for the awesomeness of the games that could potentially be released. At least this way we can wait for a megapack sale. Hopefully the oldies don't go for more than $10. Especially since you can pick up Full Throtle, The Dig, Sam and Max, CMI, etc. for $10 fully compatible on disc.

I would love X-Wing to make a return. The amount of hours I put into that as an 11 year old was crazy.icon_smile.gif

Fingers crossed that it makes the second round offers.

I am sure more adventure games will come in time. Till then I will just be content with my complete collection of Lucasarts adventure game CDs and ScummVM.
Dark Forces and Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight would also be welcome some time in the future...

I can only hope that these are being considered as remakes like Monkey Island 1. Grim Fandango doesn't really even need a remake, that game was modern and awesome!

I'd love to see a Full Throttle remake (and Monkey Island 2). Make sure EVERYBODY buys Monkey Island special next week so they make more!
