The Weekend Steam - 20/06/09

PC News | Build an Empire with war.
This week, Steam’s Weekend deal is 50% off Empire: Total War and Empire: Total War: Special Forces, which makes the pair USD $29.99 (approx. AUD $37.19 / GBP £14.99) and USD $32.49 (approx. AUD $40.29 / GBP £17.49) respectively. In addition, there are a few dozen other specials going on at the moment, all of which you can find listed at the bottom of this article.

Empire: Total War is a real-time strategy game set in the 18th century, starting in the year 1700. For the first time in the series, players can take to the high seas for 3D naval warfare. You can sail a single vessel or an entire fleet into battle, as well as take part in the founding of America. Elements such as Trade, Diplomacy, Espionage, and Advisors have also been tweaked, making Empire: Total War the definitive entry in the series. You can be taken to the download page by clicking here.

Empire: Total War: Special Forces is a pack containing both Empire: Total War and its expansion pack Empire: Total War Elite Units. Considering it’s only USD $2.50 more for the expansion, it’s considerable value and worth the extra money if you've got enough on your credit card. You can be taken to the download page by clicking here.

The MMOs are no longer on sale (they started last weekend and ran for a week).

If you can get someone to gift it to you (or otherwise purchase it from the us store), you can get the base game for $24.99 USD rather than $29.99.. (which is approx $31.20 AUD)

Yay for region restrictions icon_biggrin.gif

According to http://news.bigdownload.com/2009/06/19/empire-total-war-on-sale-on-steam-this-weekend/, the Special Forces Edition is $34.99 USD in the US store. So if you want to get that, the local store is your better bet.

That, and seriously Valve, WTF?

I've taken them out the listings. Early this morning the MMOs were actually still listed in the specials, so I thought they might have simply extended the sale. Bit of a pain really.

Thanks for the heads up.

anyone else getting a "dark sector unavailable in your region" error?

AFAIK it's not available in Australia. Could have something to do with the fact that it's been banned. An edited version (or maybe it's the same, but it says revised) has been rated MA, but I don't think it's available in Steam.

I'll remove it. Thank you.

Assuming you're viewing the store from the region you want the specials for, you can just go to the home page and click on the "Specials" tab (next to New Releases, Top Sellers, and Coming Soon). Dark Sector doesn't show up in the list for me.

That's not to say that you shouldn't still post updates here, of course, as not everybody is as much of a Steam-aholic as I am.
