Left 4 Dead Update released

PC News | Making Hunters a tad more useful.
Valve have released their latest patch to Left 4 Dead today, with an interesting new gameplay tweak and some bug fixes.

The gameplay tweak introduces a new 'fatigue' meter for melee attacks in Versus. It pops up after you begin meleeing and when the bar runs out, you can't melee for a few moments. This looks to be a neat balancing act, as there were a few known cheap tricks to avoid being pounced on by Hunters in some maps, and this new fatigue meter means that melee will be used with caution and more wisely, introducing more skill to the frenetic zombie-shooter.

The update also fixes some issues involving surround sound, a few rare crashes and Boomer vomit not being able to pass through other infected.

Xbox 360 owners will have to wait till April 21st however, as the patch is set to coincide with the release of the Survivor Pack.

What do our readers think of the addition of a fatigue gauge? Let us know in the comments section.

oh shit...

survivors will be royally screwed.Especially on the final scenarios when WAVES of zombies come in versus, usually the only safe spot to hold up is to have all 4 survivors pile into a corner, have 2 melee and have 2 constant shotty....

This will really make certain situations damn hard.Wonder just how quickly fatigue kicks in...

^I like the change, it'll make things a hell of a lot more intense and show you exactly who and who isn't competent enough to handle the hardcore difficulties icon_razz.gif

Also as a note, just got more info that the 360 patch will not be available till April 21st, it's coinciding with the survivor pack. Added it into the article.

The other fixes are welcome but the melee fatigue is not, I rely on melee to help out teamates, especially if they've been biled and I think this'll only frustrate me rather than help fix the corner/closet camping (which it wont fix for a half-decent team anyway).

That won't be much of a problem, when the meleers get fatigued just switch with the shooters.

^good luck co-ordinating melee/shoot switching when your biled on and someone is pounced and there's a smoker nearby.Very easy to say, 'ok now you guys shoot', very different matter to put into practice mid game.

Yeah, but it was completely broken before, the survivors could hold out indefinitely without taking ANY damage. Would have made survival mode quite pointless.

I do think they should make the common infected slow you down a little less though, so that you have a chance to get to a wall or corner when you are surrounded. Currently, you can nearly die from such situations if your teams doesn't help, even without the special infected taking part.

I'd imagine it being hard to do just about anything with a team that couldn't organize something as simple as this icon_wink.gif. Perhaps you've been playing with bad players or on teams without mics, because I've not played many games where my team would be unable to achieve this.

Edit:

Yer agreed, I hate how the slowness builds up, it's so frustrating when there's just 1 or 2 zombies hitting you in the back while trying to run away and you cant even move despite having a clear path ahead of you.
