2004 build of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. released

PC News | With some new levels and some old bugs.
In a rather interesting move, developer GSC Game World has released a 2004 build of its PC shooter S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl, Shacknews reports.

The version of the game is dated October 18th, 2004 (the 'xrCore build 1935', to be precise), and features several levels - Swamp, Generators and Dead City - that were left on the cutting room floor. You can download this version of the game here, but don't be surprised if you encounter some stability issues.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was finally released on the PC in 2007, missing its original scheduled date of 2003 by quite a large margin. The game was highly anticipated by punters thanks to its interesting concept, but expectations waned as the game spent more and more time in development hell.

Surprisingly, when the game did surface in 2007, it was actually pretty damn good.

So was this before or after the alpha build that got leaked? ;)

I still need to play STALKER. I always liked the concept but never got around to purchasing it. I should have grabbed it on Steam when it was discounted =(

Speaking of STALKER has clear skies been patched to fix all the brokenness I heard about. Liked the original and would like to give it a shot.
