The Weekend Steam

PC News | Ghosts, trains, knights and much more.
This week, Steam is offering a whole heap of new savings. First up, the weekend deal is Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Complete Pack for USD $19.99 (approx. AUD $29.78). If that doesn’t take your fancy, then perhaps you might want to venture into the world of train simulation with Trainz Classics Volume 1 & 2 or Trainz Classics Volume 3, both of which are available for USD $26.99 (approx. AUD $40.21) each until February 9. The fun doesn’t stop there though – also on sale are Knights of Honor for USD $13.49 (approx AUD $20.10) Europa Universalis III Complete for USD $26.99 (approx. AUD $40.21) and Take Command - Second Manassas for USD $8.99 (approx. AUD $13.39), all three being available at those prices until February 11.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Complete Pack is a special pack that contains all previously released Ghost Recon PC titles. The titles included in the package are the original Ghost Recon, Ghost Recon: Desert Siege, Ghost Recon: Island Thunder, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter and Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2. According to the download page, the pack usually saves you USD $10 as opposed to purchasing the games individually, but with the extra discount it’s certainly a very tempting download.

Trainz Classics Volume 1 & 2 is a train simulator with quite a bit of content on offer. Players can build their own worlds, view 3D in-cab controls and watch as trains roll by on the railways. The sequel, Trainz Classics Volume 3, features an improved physics engine which has allowed for better smoke effects, realistic looking passengers and better locomotive controls. In addition there’s a Railyard mode where you can view detailed statistics of each car and locomotive. To be perfectly honest, we think Volume 3 sounds like better value for your cash. You can be taken to the Volume 1 & 2 download page by clicking here, and you can head to the Volume 3 download page by clicking here.

From the modern era to medieval times, Knights of Honor is a strategy game that has players assume the role of a King who has to raise his kingdom from a small town into an expansive empire. The game requires you to lay siege to castles and other monuments to expand your kingdom, as well as ensure your people are kept appeased by developing infrastructure and maintaining the economy. Don’t have enough men to defeat the enemy? Why not be in-direct and poison their water supply? Also, be on the look out for spies and assassins, it’s certainly not easy to be King. You can be taken to the download page by clicking here.

For those wanting something a bit more historic, you may be interested in the strategy game Europa Universalis III Complete. As its title suggest, the pack includes the original Europa Universalis III and the expansions In Nomine and Napoleon's Ambition. Players will have the option to play as one of over 250 different nations, and from there slowly dictate and evolve their form of government, society structure and trade policies. One of the more interesting features is the ability to play cooperatively with other players online. You can be taken to the download page by clicking here.

The final game this week, Take Command - Second Manassas, is yet another strategy title. This time however it’s set during the American Civil War and lets players choose the side of the Union or the Confederate. There are 50 scenarios to play through across five battlefield maps, all of which are based on historic records from the Library of Congress in the US, supposedly making the game as realistic as possible. You can be taken to the download page by clicking here.

I think I have bought nearly every steam weekend deal. They are generally good value. I just bought the Ghost Recon pack although I doubt I'll play through all of them.

Awesome, I love this article. I only know about the Ghost Recon park but not the Trainz. Will inform my other half who is a huge fan of train models. He always wanted the Trainz games.

Keep up the good work (thumbs up)

Anyone know what GRAW is like on PC vs the 360? I tried it on 360 but it felt overly complex and a chore to do anything (especially compared to the amazingly fluid Rainbow 6: Las Vegas titles). Maybe having a keyboard makes the millions of different controls easier to use...

(I never played the original Ghost Recon titles so I have no idea what those are like)

GRAW on the PC is good fun icon_smile.gif.... but beware, the zomg how the f**k did he hit me syndrome is particularly nortorious with the original ghost recon's.

Still, I'm playing thru all three at the moment with the Trilogy campaign addon.... good stuff. icon_smile.gif
